China Energy Engineering International Group, in collaboration with Zhejiang Thermal Power and Southwest Institute, has successfully won the bid for the largest independent energy storage project in Africa - the Nefertiti 1000 megawatt hour energy storage project in Benban, Egypt.

The project is located in the Benban Photovoltaic Park in Aswan Province, Egypt, and is constructed using the EPC general contracting model. The core construction content includes: building a new 220 kV substation; Complete the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning work of the energy storage plant area; Upgrade and renovate the existing substation on the opposite side. After completion, the project will become the largest independent energy storage power station in Africa, setting a new benchmark for clean energy development in Egypt and even the entire African region.

The project will provide up to 1 gigawatt hour of power load regulation capability. This enormous energy storage capacity will effectively mitigate the volatility of photovoltaic power generation, significantly enhance the stability and reliability of the Egyptian power grid, and provide solid support for the large-scale integration and consumption of renewable energy in the local area.

Looking back at the past, since entering the Egyptian market in 2010, China Energy Engineering has undertaken more than 10 key projects in the country, with a cumulative signing amount of over 3 billion US dollars, and has accumulated rich experience in the field of new energy. Its representative projects include the Abydos Phase II 1200 MW solar energy storage project, which, as the largest single solar energy storage project in Africa, further consolidates China Energy Construction's leading position in the field of integrated solar energy storage construction; The Kangwenbo 500 MW photovoltaic power station, as the largest single photovoltaic power station in Egypt, provides a large amount of clean electricity to the local area and is one of the landmark projects for the development of new energy in Egypt.
