From Mianyang in northern Sichuan to Neijiang in southern Sichuan, a high-speed railway artery with a planned investment of over 20 billion yuan is entering reality from the blueprint. The recent launch of survey and design bidding for the Suining Neijiang section of the Mianyang Suining Neijiang Railway marks an unprecedented acceleration in the progress of this highly anticipated transportation project.
Against the backdrop of the deepening of the national strategy for the construction of the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle, the railway construction in Sichuan Province has ushered in a new round of accelerated development. As a key project in the 14th Five Year Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Development in Sichuan Province, the Mianyang Suining Railway will fill the railway gap in the central Sichuan region, strengthen the connection between the two national central cities of Chengdu and Chongqing and the central Sichuan city, and help build a new regional economic pattern of complementary advantages and coordinated development.
Comprehensive acceleration of the construction of the Suinei section
The Suining Neijiang section of the Miansui Neijiang Railway has recently achieved substantial breakthroughs, launching preliminary survey and design and construction drawing survey and design bidding, which is an important milestone in the project construction. The initiation of the bidding process signifies that the project has officially entered the preliminary design phase, laying a solid foundation for construction to begin in 2026.
From the changes in the schedule, it can be seen that the project construction has significantly accelerated: in 2024, the relevant responses from Sichuan Province still indicate that the project is in the stage of promoting all parties to reach a consensus on the investment plan and construction mode for the Suining Neijiang section as soon as possible; At the beginning of 2025, Suining City stated that it expects to start construction in 2027; As of October this year, the start date has been clearly set for 2026.
This accelerated promotion reflects Sichuan Province's determination to improve the regional transportation network. The main line of the Suinei section is about 160 kilometers long, with a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour and reserved conditions for future upgrades to 350 kilometers per hour. The project starts from Suining High tech Station, passes through Anju District of Suining, Anyue County of Ziyang, and ends at Neijiang North Station, with an estimated total investment of about 20.5 billion yuan.
Constructing a new regional railway loop
The completion of the Miansui Neijiang Railway will form an important horizontal railway channel in the central Sichuan region and intersect with multiple vertical railway lines, building a more complete railway network.
From the perspective of macro road network layout, the Miansui Neijiang Railway is a component of the Mianlu High speed Railway. After completion, the line will achieve interconnectivity with existing and planned railways at multiple key nodes: a new connecting line will be built in the Mianyang area to connect to Mianyang Station; Connect with the Chengdu Dalian Wanzhou high-speed railway and Chengdu Suiyu railway in the Suining area; The Neijiang North Station is connected to the Neizi Lu section of the Mianyang Lu high-speed railway in the Neijiang area.
