Recently, the highly anticipated Zhuhai Maoming section of the Shenzhen Nanning Expressway has made significant progress.  

The Guangdong Provincial Government Repayment Expressway Management Center has successfully completed the bidding for the preparation of the feasibility study report for the project. China Communications Construction First Highway Survey and Design Institute, China Communications Construction Second Highway Survey and Design Institute, and Guangdong Provincial Transportation Planning and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. have stood out from fierce competition and become the winning candidates.  

This marks the beginning of the preliminary work for a provincial-level major transportation project with a total investment of 84.4 billion yuan, which has entered the fast lane. The outline of a transportation artery that runs through the five cities of Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, and Maoming and directly reaches the Guangdong Guangxi border is gradually becoming clearer.  

The section of Shennan Expressway from Zhuhai to Maoming starts from Zhuhai High tech Zone and ends at the border of Guangdong and Guangxi in Pingding Town, Huazhou City, Maoming. In the future, it will connect with the Guangxi section and form an important part of the Beijing Hong Kong Macao Expressway connecting line of China's national expressway network.  

The bidding results show that the quotes from the three top design institutes are highly similar, ranging from 19.76 million to 19.82 million yuan, reflecting high-level competition in the professional field.  

Segmented construction, designed with a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour

According to the existing plan, the project will adopt a segmented construction mode with a total length of approximately 358.84 kilometers for the main line, except for the shared section of the Shenzhen Zhuhai Expressway

Zhongshan to Zhuhai section: about 38.98 kilometers, with a total investment of 19.9 billion yuan, designed with a speed of 100-120 kilometers per hour, using eight lanes in both directions, it is a fast track connecting the core area of the Greater Bay Area.  

The Zhuhai Jiangmen section is approximately 110.21 kilometers long, with a total investment of 26 billion yuan and a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Some sections are eight lane and some are six lane.  

Yangjiang section: about 108.32 kilometers, total investment of 20.5 billion yuan, designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour, six lanes in both directions.  

Maoming section: about 101.33 kilometers, total investment of 18 billion yuan, designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour, six lanes in both directions.  

Connecting urban clusters and injecting new economic momentum

The Shennan Expressway is not an ordinary road. It is positioned as the core outbound channel radiating westward from the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, directly connecting the Greater Bay Area with the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration. After the project is fully connected, it will significantly shorten the spatial and temporal distance between the two major urban agglomerations, effectively alleviate the traffic pressure on the existing horizontal channels, and have strategic significance for improving the highway network in southern China. At a deeper level, this' golden corridor 'will effectively promote the deep integration of cities along the route in terms of industrial synergy, tourism resource linkage, and smooth logistics system, providing solid transportation support for the integration of western Guangdong into the development pattern of the Greater Bay Area and promoting high-quality regional economic coordination and development.
