On December 16, 2025, as a construction order sounded in Guanshengchang Village, Dongjia Town, Fengdu County, Chongqing, another strategic water conservancy hub under the national Chengdu Chongqing economic circle plan - the Feilong Reservoir Project in Fengdu County, was officially launched for comprehensive construction by the contractor, China Hydropower Fifth Bureau. This medium-sized reservoir with a total designed storage capacity of 13.16 million cubic meters and a total investment of 1.02 billion yuan is the largest backbone water source project in the history of water conservancy construction in Fengdu County. It is positioned as a "key strategic pivot" of the water network on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Fengdu County, which will not only greatly optimize the allocation of regional water resources, but also carry the heavy livelihood expectations of quenching the thirst of more than 150000 people and relieving the worries of 26500 acres of arable land.

The construction of Feilong Reservoir is a relay race that crosses layers of scientific demonstration and strict approval. As early as April 2024, the planning scheme of the project had successfully passed the authoritative review of the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, providing key guarantees for its scientificity and compliance. As a key municipal project included in the construction of the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle, Feilong Reservoir goes beyond the scope of simple water conservancy engineering and is entrusted with the mission of serving national level strategies.

It will solve the engineering and seasonal water shortage problem that has plagued the northern region of Fengdu for many years from the source. A 23.11 kilometer long water supply artery will depart from the reservoir and extend like a web of life. This means that the water quality for 136000 citizens in the Mingshan cluster will be fundamentally improved; At the same time, the 17300 people in four townships including Dongjia, Qinglong, Shuanglong, and Sanyuan will completely bid farewell to the history of relying on water from the sky and drink stable and safe water. Faced with the challenges of complex terrain and geology, the Feilong Reservoir project has demonstrated extremely high construction standards. The dam is designed as a stacked concrete gravity dam with a maximum height of 46 meters, which is an advanced dam type that balances strength, durability, and construction efficiency. Its design standards can withstand floods that occur once every 50 years and pass the test of floods that occur once every 500 years, ensuring the long-term stability of the project.

Behind the project is an experienced national team. At the beginning of 2025, China Water Resources and Hydropower Fifth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Yellow River Survey, Planning, Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., successfully won the EPC general contracting of the project with strong technical strength and a reasonable quotation of 553 million yuan.
