With the official launch of the survey, design, and environmental impact assessment bidding for the extension and efficiency improvement project of the Tao River with a total investment of 16.8 billion yuan, another super project in the history of water conservancy construction in Gansu has taken a crucial step forward.

As a major provincial-level project, this project has been included in the 2026 Gansu Provincial Government Work Report and is fully committed to the national 15th Five Year Plan for water security. This marks a historic turning point in the development of Longdong region, which has long been constrained by water scarcity and is about to completely break through.

Activate the secondary entrepreneurship of surplus water

Unlike the water diversion project that started from scratch, the core of the Tao River extension and efficiency improvement project lies in efficiency improvement and extension. The project will rely on the completed Tao River Water Supply Project, utilizing the surplus water from its annual water transfer of 550 million cubic meters, and through a total length of 785 kilometers of water transmission lines (including 306 kilometers of main line, 184 kilometers of main line, and 295 kilometers of branch line), to lead Ganlin to 13 counties (districts) in Pingliang and Qingyang cities.

The bidding budget for this project is 91 million yuan, with a service period of 210 days, covering the full process of pre support for more than ten special reports from project proposals to land pre-approval. This is not only a technical survey, but also a deep review of Gansu's water resource allocation capacity.

The project is specially divided into two sections, east and west of Liupanshan, with an investment of up to 10.2 billion yuan for the 635 kilometer eastern section, which demonstrates the difficulty and determination of transporting water to the depths of Longdong.

The Water Base of Millions of Livelihoods and Billions of Industries

For Longdong, which experiences nine droughts in ten years, this is not only a water conservancy project, but also a lifeline for survival and development. After the completion of the project, it will completely put an end to the history of bitter and salty water and limited time water supply for the local people, and provide a stable water source for millions of people.

The deeper significance lies in the release of industries: stable water supply will break the water ceiling of projects such as energy and chemical engineering, modern agriculture, etc., and provide solid water resources guarantee for Longdong to build the province's economic growth pole.
