The morning sun shines on the final assembly workshop of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. in China. The robotic arm swings precisely, and workers are busy conducting factory inspections on a batch of wind power gearboxes. At the same time, the core components of the new generation energy storage system are gradually being rolled off the production line at the Qingdao production base hundreds of kilometers away. This bustling production scene stems from a heavyweight order - China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) recently announced the acquisition of a large contract worth 53.3 billion yuan, covering three core areas: rail transit equipment, wind power systems, and energy storage systems. Among them, wind power and energy storage business account for more than 30%, marking a substantial breakthrough in the company's strategic layout in the "rail transit+new energy" dual track.

Consolidate the leading position again

As a leading enterprise in global rail transit equipment, the rail transit sector of CRRC in this order still carries the weight, contributing nearly 70% of the total contract amount, covering multiple categories such as high-speed trains, urban rail vehicles, core components, and operation and maintenance services. The order customers are spread over many provinces and cities in China and countries along the "the Belt and Road", which not only need to upgrade the vehicles on existing lines, but also include the vehicle procurement projects for new rail transit lines.

The landing of this batch of orders fully confirms the market's recognition of CRRC's technical strength and product quality in rail transit equipment. The relevant person in charge of CRRC stated that the high-speed train unit that won the bid this time is equipped with an independently developed intelligent operation and maintenance system, which can achieve real-time monitoring of vehicle operation data and fault warning, greatly improving the efficiency of line operation; Urban rail vehicles adopt lightweight design and energy-saving traction technology, effectively reducing the operating costs of urban rail transit. In overseas markets, CRRC has continuously won urban rail projects in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions with customized solutions, further consolidating its leading position in the global rail transit equipment market

Wind power storage becomes a new engine for growth

If rail transit business is CRRC's "ballast stone", then wind power and energy storage business are the "growth highlights" of this order. According to disclosure, the total amount of wind power and energy storage related orders in this contract exceeds 16.6 billion yuan, covering products such as large capacity offshore wind turbines, onshore wind turbine towers, energy storage inverters, and energy storage system integration services. The orders cover domestic wind power resource rich areas and new energy demonstration projects.

In the field of wind power, CRRC has achieved independent production of core components such as wind power gearboxes and main bearings through years of deep cultivation in rail transit transmission systems. Its 16 MW offshore wind turbine has the characteristics of typhoon resistance and salt spray resistance, which can adapt to complex marine environments and improve power generation efficiency by more than 10% compared to traditional models. In the field of energy storage, CRRC focuses on the energy storage needs of the power grid and users, and has launched a containerized energy storage system that combines high safety and compatibility. It can seamlessly integrate with new energy generation systems such as photovoltaics and wind power, helping the power grid achieve peak shaving and valley filling, as well as new energy consumption.

The rapid rise of wind power and energy storage business is an inevitable result of CRRC's implementation of the 'dual carbon' goal and the promotion of industrial transformation and upgrading. Industry analysts pointed out that with the acceleration of global energy transformation, the demand for new energy equipment market continues to rise. CRRC relies on the accumulated technology, manufacturing and supply chain advantages in the rail transit field to cross over and layout the new energy track, gradually realizing the transformation from a 'rail transit giant' to a 'comprehensive energy equipment service provider'.

Leading the new journey of high-end equipment manufacturing

The landing of the 53.3 billion yuan large order is not only a "shot in the arm" for CRRC's annual performance, but also outlines a clear blueprint for the company's "rail transit+new energy" dual wheel drive. While the traditional rail transit business maintains stable growth, the emergence of new energy business has opened up new growth opportunities for enterprises.

In the future, CRRC China will continue to increase its research and development investment in the field of new energy, focusing on tackling core technologies such as high-power offshore wind turbines and long-term energy storage, and promoting the scale and high-end development of wind power and energy storage businesses; At the same time, relying on the "the Belt and Road" initiative, rail transit equipment will be combined with new energy solutions to provide overseas customers with one-stop infrastructure and energy services.

From high-speed trains to rotating wind turbines, from urban subways to energy storage power stations, CRRC is accelerating on the high-end equipment manufacturing track with a dual track approach, contributing Chinese strength to global infrastructure construction and energy transformation.Editor/Bian Wenjun
