In the depths of the "blood vessels" of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, an unprecedented "expansion surgery" is about to begin. When the first ray of sunshine shines on the Jiguang Expressway in the morning, behind the scene of bustling traffic, there is a golden passage carrying regional economic vitality that is facing the "growing troubles". Recently, with the dust settled on a bid winning notice with a total investment of 31.1 billion yuan, this super project aimed at unblocking traffic congestion and injecting new energy into the Greater Bay Area has finally unveiled its mysterious veil.

Competition for the Billion Dollar Central Enterprise Alliance

This highly anticipated bidding has attracted fierce competition from top domestic construction companies. In the end, the ownership of the eight major sections was settled, and several strong central enterprises were successfully shortlisted. Among them, the affiliated enterprises of Poly Group, with their outstanding strength and rich experience in the field of large-scale infrastructure construction, won the highest bid and became the undisputed focus of this round of bidding. This not only demonstrates Poly Group's leading position in the field of engineering construction, but also signifies its determination and ability to deeply participate in major national strategic projects.

97.5 kilometers of 'expansion battle'

This project is not about building high-rise buildings on flat ground, but rather a "minimally invasive surgery" and "expansion and upgrading" of the existing sections of the Ji Guang Expressway from Xiaojinkou in Huizhou to Luogang in Guangzhou and from Xiaojinkou in Huizhou to Lingkeng in Guanghui Expressway. The total length of the project route is about 97.5 kilometers, spanning multiple districts and counties in Huizhou and Guangzhou, and is a key link connecting the core areas of eastern Guangdong and Guangzhou. The entire line involves 191 bridges and 1 tunnel, with a bridge tunnel ratio of 15.2%. The construction requires clever splicing and integration of new and old structures while ensuring the smooth flow of existing traffic arteries. The technical difficulty and management complexity far exceed that of new construction projects. In addition, the project also requires the renovation and expansion of 16 locations, the construction of 1 new interchange, and the comprehensive upgrading of supporting facilities such as service areas and management centers to meet the growing transportation demand in the future.

Faced with such a complex project, the construction team will face unprecedented challenges. How to efficiently promote construction without affecting existing traffic? How to ensure the perfect connection between new and old bridges and tunnels, and guarantee the quality and safety of the project? How to complete such a massive project within a limited time? These are all severe tests facing the builders. However, challenges and opportunities coexist. The successful implementation of this project will greatly improve the transportation efficiency of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, alleviate regional traffic pressure, inject strong impetus into the economic development of the areas along the route, and have important strategic significance for promoting the deep integration and coordinated development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

It can be foreseen that in the near future, a wider, flatter, and more efficient modern highway will be presented before people's eyes. It is not only a transportation hub, but also a link connecting dreams and hopes, laying a more solid foundation for the future development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. This 31.1 billion yuan "expansion war" is destined to become another classic case in the history of China's infrastructure construction.Editor/Bian Wenjun
