On January 4, 2026, the Damkewosted solar storage power station under European Energy was officially connected to the grid for power generation. This new energy project, which relies on the upgraded photovoltaic power station that will be put into operation in 2022, has become the largest photovoltaic storage integrated power station in the Nordic region due to the installation of a 200MWh high-capacity battery energy storage system, providing a benchmark solution for the high proportion of photovoltaic power consumption in the region.

From the complete installation of the energy storage system, to the electrical grid connection debugging of the photovoltaic power station and the power grid, to the construction of supporting infrastructure, European Energy completed the entire process transformation in just 7 months. After grid connection, the project immediately enters the trial operation stage. The technical team will conduct comprehensive debugging on core technical indicators such as charging and discharging efficiency and energy conversion rate of the battery system, laying a solid technical foundation for subsequent commercial operation.

Mads Lykke Andersen, the head of technology development at European Energy Company, stated that the successful grid connection of the Kvodsted solar energy storage plant is an important milestone for the large-scale implementation and application of the company's energy storage technology. With the successive operation of multiple large-scale energy storage projects in 2026, the company's energy storage business map will achieve a leapfrog expansion, further consolidating its leading position in the European new energy market.

The operation of this project precisely anchors the core pain points of the development of Denmark's photovoltaic industry. At present, photovoltaic power generation has become the core pillar of Denmark's electricity structure, and the power generation during periods of sufficient sunlight can meet more than 60% of the country's electricity demand. However, the intermittency and volatility of photovoltaic output pose a serious challenge to the stable operation of the power grid. The integration of energy storage systems will effectively smooth out fluctuations in photovoltaic output, achieve peak shaving and valley filling of electricity, and significantly enhance the grid connected consumption capacity of photovoltaic power.

Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Project Development Leader of European Energy Company, has clarified the future energy storage strategic layout: the company will place energy storage business at the core of the project portfolio, and the landing of the Kwosted solar energy storage power station marks the official launch of the large-scale deployment of energy storage systems. According to the plan, by 2027, the company will have accumulated over 1GW of energy storage installed capacity in the European market, and through power storage and intelligent scheduling, achieve efficient utilization of electricity during the best period of supply and demand matching.

It is worth noting that Danske Commodities, a Danish commodity energy trading company, is deeply involved in project operation. It not only serves as the power balance responsibility party (BRP) for the Kwostede photovoltaic power station, but also provides professional optimization and scheduling services for supporting energy storage power stations. This is also the first integrated asset of wind, solar and energy storage under the energy trading enterprise, opening up new space for it to expand its new energy service business.Editor/Bian Wenjun
