On January 23, 2026, the Baowu Qingneng (Yangjiang) Green Hydrogen Industrial Park project was officially launched in Yangjiang, Guangdong, with a total investment of 11.09 billion yuan. After completion, it will become the world's largest offshore wind power direct hydrogen production project and also the largest green hydrogen industry project in eastern China, marking the substantial implementation stage of Guangdong's green hydrogen strategic layout.

As the core layout of China Baowu's clean energy sector, this project uses a 1.5GW offshore wind power green power direct connection mode to produce hydrogen, with a planned annual output of 80000 tons of green hydrogen. It is also equipped with a green ammonia production line, advanced hydrogen energy equipment base, solid-state hydrogen storage material production line, and innovative research and development center to build a complete zero carbon industrial loop of "green power green hydrogen green metallurgy", providing a replicable and promotable implementation path for low-carbon transformation in high energy consuming industries such as steel.

The two core breakthroughs of the project have solidified its benchmark position in the industry. Firstly, the equipment is independently controllable and reaches the international advanced level. The high-end hydrogen production equipment base focuses on the research and production of non precious metal based nanocatalytic hydrogen production equipment. Through the integration of digital workshops and flexible production lines, modular customization is achieved, and the electricity consumption per cubic meter of hydrogen is less than 3.9 kWh; Simultaneously building the largest solid-state hydrogen storage material base in South China, focusing on efficient and safe solid-state hydrogen storage technologies such as magnesium and sodium, with products radiating to domestic and international markets. The second is the hard core support of the innovation system. Baowu Qingneng and the State Key Laboratory of New Metal Materials of Beijing University of Science and Technology jointly build a green hydrogen energy research and development center, build a three-level system of "basic research - technology pilot test - industrial incubation", tackle key problems in low pressure hydrogen production, wind solar coupling hydrogen production and other core technologies and detection systems, and seize the commanding heights of hydrogen technology.

The industrial driving effect is highlighted, empowering the green development of the Greater Bay Area. The project will integrate the entire chain of wind power and hydrogen energy, drive the agglomeration of upstream and downstream industries such as hydrogen equipment, green ammonia, and green alcohols, and help Yangjiang build a billion dollar green hydrogen energy ecosystem; Simultaneously planning and constructing three hydrogen transmission pipelines from Yangjiang to Zhanjiang, the Pearl River Delta, and Hong Kong, building a "hydrogen transmission corridor" in Guangdong, not only transporting green hydrogen for Zhanjiang steel, but also supporting the development of the hydrogen energy industry in the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong, continuously enhancing Guangdong's strategic leading position in the field of green hydrogen, and injecting strong momentum into the optimization of energy structure and industrial upgrading in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

The landing of Yangjiang Green Hydrogen Industrial Park this time is a key milestone in Baowu Qingneng's "clean energy+industrial gas" dual wheel drive strategy.
