On January 21, 2026, a construction project related to the future of clean energy began in the mountains of Kang County, Lincang Town, Yunnan Province. Huaneng Lancang River New Energy Co., Ltd. has officially started construction on the Caoshan Phase I and Phase III photovoltaic power generation projects, with an investment of approximately 2.685 billion yuan. This land covering over 10000 acres is about to carry a total of 590 megawatts of green power dreams, becoming an important footnote to the energy structure transformation in southwestern Yunnan.

Project scale and core composition

The project is located near Bangkong Village, Mengdui Township, Zhenkang County, with a total investment of 2.685 billion yuan and a planned total installed capacity of 590 megawatts, covering an area of approximately 10871 acres. The main construction content includes the installation of over 1.14 million photovoltaic modules, 40822 photovoltaic brackets, and 1844 string inverters, totaling 161 photovoltaic power generation arrays. Such a massive hardware scale forms a solid foundation for the project's power generation capacity.

Staged design and grid connection plan

The project is implemented in phases one and three, and adopts a collaborative design grid connection scheme. The rated capacity of Caoshan Phase I Photovoltaic Project is 350 MW, and the actual installed capacity is about 437.4 MW. Its core is to build a new 220 kV substation, which will collect power through 16 35 kV collection lines and ultimately connect to the existing 220 kV Nansan Substation through 1 220 kV line. The rated capacity of the Caoshan Phase III photovoltaic project is 240 megawatts, with an installed capacity of approximately 299.9 megawatts. Its design is more intensive, and no new booster stations are built. Instead, power is directly connected to the newly built 220 kV booster station in Phase I through 11 35 kV collection lines, achieving facility sharing and efficiency optimization. Construction goals and long-term benefits

The project is planned to be fully completed and achieve full capacity grid connected power generation by the end of 2026. According to the design, the project will operate for up to 25 years and will continue to stably deliver clean electricity to the power grid for the next quarter century. This will not only directly assist in the green transformation of energy structure in Yunnan Province and the region, enhance the ability to guarantee power supply, but also bring large-scale investment and construction opportunities to the local area, which has significant long-term comprehensive benefits for promoting local economic development and ecological civilization construction.Editor/Gao Xue
