Against the grand backdrop of the country's efforts to build a water network framework and promote dual construction, the Southwest region has added more water resources.
Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the feasibility study report of the Pumpkin Ping Reservoir project in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, marking that this major water conservancy project with a total investment of 4.059 billion yuan has officially moved from blueprint to construction drawing and is about to enter the stage of comprehensive construction.

The Pumpkin Ping Reservoir Project is a large (II) type reservoir with a total storage capacity of 118 million cubic meters and a maximum dam height of 126.6 meters. The project is located on the main stream of Wulang River in Zhanhe Township, Ninglang County. It consists of a hub dam and a water supply main line, with a total construction period of 68 months. After completion, the project will have an annual total water supply capacity of 76.55 million cubic meters, effectively meeting the irrigation needs of 251000 acres of farmland and providing safe and reliable production and domestic water for 203700 people in the region.
This project is not only a livelihood project, but also a key link in the ecological barrier. Its main tasks are irrigation and urban-rural water supply, while also taking into account the protection of the ecological environment in the Chenghai Lake Basin. After the completion of the reservoir, it will improve the water ecology of the basin, help build a strong ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and have strategic significance for consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation and promoting high-quality development in ethnic areas.

As a leading domestic water conservancy design enterprise, Changjiang Design Group undertook the preparation of the feasibility study report for the project. The project approval process took several years: starting from the feasibility study work in 2016, it went through multiple rounds of review by the Water Planning Institute, submission by the Ministry of Water Resources, and evaluation by the China Consulting Group. Finally, it was successfully included in the list of 150 major water conservancy construction plans determined by the State Council and the national "dual" construction landmark major water conservancy projects. Keywords: engineering construction, water conservancy, reservoir projects
The construction of Pumpkin Ping Reservoir will completely change the water resource allocation pattern in the Wulang River Basin, providing a solid water resource guarantee for the sustainable economic development, rural revitalization, and industrial restructuring of Lijiang and even the northwest Yunnan region.Editor/Cheng Liting
