In the core area of the ecological and green integrated development demonstration zone in the Yangtze River Delta, a golden waterway bearing the lifeline of flood control safety and water supply in the the Taihu Lake Lake basin has ushered in a critical upgrade.

On March 26, 2026, the construction preparation project for the first phase of the Taipu River follow-up project was officially launched, marking the substantial construction stage of this national level water conservancy project with a total investment of about 7.62 billion yuan.

As one of the two backbone channels for carrying and discharging flood in the the Taihu Lake Lake basin, the strength and strength of the Taipu River is not only related to the flood control safety of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, but also will provide a solid water security guarantee for the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.

7.6 billion investment to unblock intestinal obstruction

The site for the first phase of the Taipu River follow-up project is located at the junction of Wujiang District in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province and Jiashan County in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. With a special geographical location, it is a major construction project determined at the 2026 National Water Resources Work Conference. According to the plan, the total investment of the project is about 7.62 billion yuan, and the construction preparation project that was launched first this time has an investment of 178 million yuan, laying the foundation for the comprehensive commencement of the main project before the end of the year.

As a natural water system connecting the East the Taihu Lake Lake and the Huangpu River, the Taipu River is 57.6km long and has long been under multiple pressures of flood discharge, waterlogging drainage and water supply. However, with the frequent occurrence of extreme weather and rapid development of the basin economy, the existing river channels have shown shortcomings in their flood discharge capacity in some sections. The core task of this follow-up project is to thoroughly unblock the intestinal obstruction of flood control and drainage through river dredging, embankment reinforcement, and building renovation, greatly improving the overall regulation and storage capacity of the basin.
