On January 28th, the Wuwei Wangshu 100MW photovoltaic power generation project and supporting energy storage system, invested by Gansu Power Investment Group and constructed by Gansu Power Investment Jiuhui Company, successfully achieved full capacity grid connection. This project is a key demonstration project promoted by Wuwei City under the deepening of the national "dual carbon" target. It is also another innovative practice and important milestone in exploring the integrated development model of "photovoltaic+desertification control+energy storage" in the desert and Gobi areas of the Hexi Corridor. The full capacity grid connection of the project will further expand the clean energy installed capacity of Gansu Power Investment Group, injecting strong impetus into the regional energy structure transformation and green low-carbon development. Wuwei Wangshu 100MW Photovoltaic Project is located in Jiuduntan Photovoltaic Sand Control Demonstration Base, Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, at the southern edge of Tengger Desert. The total installed capacity of the project is 100MW, with a DC side installed capacity of 120MW and a supporting 15MW/60MWh electrochemical energy storage system, covering an area of approximately 2300 acres. The project adopts advanced equipment such as efficient double-sided double glass photovoltaic modules and intelligent string inverters, and through the coordinated scheduling of the supporting energy storage system, it effectively improves the stability of power output and the capacity of power grid absorption. It is a comprehensive green energy project integrating technology progressiveness, system integration and ecological friendliness. As a deepening practice of the "photovoltaic desertification control" model, the project deeply integrates the concept of ecological governance in its planning and construction. Through a three-dimensional layout of "on-board power generation, on-board restoration, and inter board planting", sand fixing vegetation planting and sand barrier setting are implemented between photovoltaic arrays and around the site. This not only effectively suppresses wind and sand invasion, improves the local ecological environment, but also explores a sustainable development path for the coordinated development of new energy and ecological governance, providing replicable experience for the construction of new energy projects in similar desertification areas. Since the start of construction on November 11, 2025, facing the harsh natural conditions and complex construction environment at the edge of the desert, the project team has scientifically organized and carefully deployed, overcome many challenges such as low temperatures and frequent sandstorms in winter, and completed all the work from site leveling, foundation construction to equipment installation and system debugging with high quality. The synchronous operation of the supporting energy storage system further enhances the project's peak shaving and frequency regulation capabilities and the support role of the power grid, improving the utilization efficiency of renewable energy and the safe and stable operation level of the power system. After the project is fully connected to the grid, it is expected that the annual average on grid electricity will be 210.437 million kWh, which can save about 63400 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 173600 tons per year, with significant environmental benefits. At the same time, the operation of the project will promote the optimization of regional energy structure and the green upgrading of industries, achieving an organic unity of economic, social, and ecological benefits. The successful grid connected operation of this project is another important achievement in actively responding to the national energy strategy and steadfastly pursuing the path of ecological priority and green development. Next, Gansu Diantou Jiuhui Company will continue to adhere to the concept of green development, take this project grid connection as a new starting point, continuously deepen technological innovation, optimize project management, and enable more "blue photovoltaic oceans" to emerge on the vast desert, contributing more and more solid green strength to building a solid ecological security barrier and achieving the "dual carbon" strategic goals.Editor/Bian Wenjun
