At this moment, the Moon Bay Pumped Storage Power Station project with a total investment of about 12 billion yuan has officially landed in Ludian, bringing unprecedented development opportunities to this small town in northeastern Yunnan.

At the signing ceremony, the relevant person in charge of the Ludian County Committee congratulated the successful signing of the project and emphasized that all departments in the county should attach great importance to it, take the initiative to provide advanced services, accurately connect with enterprise needs, timely solve various problems in the early preparation and construction process of the project, and fully support the project construction, striving to make the project land and take effect as soon as possible.

Empowering regional energy structure optimization

The planned installed capacity of the Moon Bay Pumped Storage Power Station project is about 1.2 million kilowatts, with a total investment of about 12 billion yuan. The project site selection fully conforms to the energy resource characteristics and regional development plan of Ludian County. After completion, it will play multiple roles, including peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency and phase modulation, and can also serve as a backup power source in emergency situations.

Pumped storage power stations are known as the "super power bank" of the power system, and are currently the most mature and economically efficient large-scale energy storage method. It uses the electricity generated during low power loads to pump water to the upper reservoir, and then releases water to the lower reservoir for power generation during peak power loads. It can effectively stabilize the daily fluctuations of wind and solar power generation, undertake key tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, and emergency backup, and become the basic regulating power source for building a new type of power system.

Integrated wind solar water storage system

According to the plan of "laying the foundation in three years, reaching new heights in five years, and making great strides in ten years", Ludian County is accelerating the construction of a 10 million kilowatt level clean energy base. By 2030, the installed capacity of new energy in the entire county will exceed 2.9 million kilowatts, and the output value of the energy industry will reach 1.6 billion yuan, driving six enterprises to upgrade and integrate, forming a full industry chain integrating power generation, energy storage, and equipment manufacturing.
