PKPPLK, a Polish infrastructure management company, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Poznan municipal government to develop a plan to replace the Poznan main railway station as part of the project to enhance the transportation capacity of this important railway hub. This hub is the intersection of eight railway lines.

The Poznan Main Station currently receives over 500 long-distance and regional trains daily, and traffic congestion is gradually becoming a focus of attention. The station serves approximately 70000 passengers per day and has an annual passenger flow of over 20 million. For many years, it has been one of the three busiest stations in Poland. The project aims to provide new passenger transportation facilities while improving connectivity with local public transportation and ensuring perfect integration with the urban layout.

A contract will be tendered in the first half of 2026 for the conceptual design of a new station building, which is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the estimated contract value is 3-5 million zlotys, jointly funded by PKPPLK (70%) and Poznan City (30%). The detailed terms of cooperation between the two parties will be determined in another agreement.

The design work began in December 2024 with the aim of significantly upgrading and renovating the Poznan railway hub, including laying new tracks and constructing platforms on the existing station building site. The new station building will be built above eight interconnected island platforms and one single-sided platform, while also improving pedestrian traffic conditions. CPK project

This broader upgrade project will also include reserving space for future high-speed lines, which will become part of the CPK project. The project also includes laying additional tracks and constructing new fixed facilities within the Poznan metropolitan area. The level crossing will be replaced by a bridge. According to PKPPLK, the relevant research will be completed by 2029 at the latest, allowing for the initiation of construction work. Funds have also been secured.Editor/Cheng Liting
