On February 22, 2026, a new page was opened in the railway history of New Delhi. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi pressing the start button at Sarai Kale Khan platform in Sarai Kale Khan, India's first regional rapid transit system RRTS - Namo Bharat Line - has officially been fully connected. This is not an ordinary railway, but rather the beginning of the Indian version of urban rapid transit. Its emergence completely rewrote the time and space distance between the crowded cities of Delhi and Mirt Meerut.

Speed is its most intuitive label

When the remaining 27 kilometers of the route were officially integrated into the road network, this 82 kilometer long steel dragon began to roar and shuttle at a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The departure interval has been compressed to every 10 minutes, taking only 55 minutes from Sarai Kala Khan in Delhi to Modipram in Mirt.

Imagine: Prior to this, this journey often took 3-4 hours on congested national highways; And now, before finishing a cup of coffee, you have crossed 82 kilometers.

Creating a Fast and Accelerated Commuting Experience

The 23 km Meerut Metro AG line is also open to passengers at the same time as RRTS. This line, officially known as the 'fastest subway in India', utilizes the infrastructure of RRTS to increase the maximum speed to 120 kilometers per hour.

13 stations, the entire journey only takes 30 minutes

At the four key nodes of Milyutnam, Shatabudinagar, Begumpur, and Nomodipalam, passengers can achieve seamless transfer between RRTS and the subway.

This layout has extraordinary significance. With the integration of the Milyut subway line, the total length of subway operation in India has officially exceeded 1100 kilometers, covering 24 cities.

This is a long relay

RRTS was not built overnight. As early as October 2023, the 17 kilometer priority road connecting Sahibad and Duhai had already been opened to traffic; By January 2025, with Modi presiding over the opening of the new Ashoka Nagar to Mirtnam section, the length of the line has been extended to 54 kilometers. By last year, a paper of approval from the railway safety commissioner CMRS had stamped the final puzzle - the 6-kilometer stretch from Sarikal Khan to New Ashok Nagar, as well as the 21 kilometer stretch from Miryutnam to Modipalam, were finally allowed to carry passengers. At this point, the Namobarat Line can be considered truly complete.

Salai Kala Khan: Not just a station, but also a super hub.

At the terminal station in Delhi, Sarai Kala Khan, it has been developed into a giant multimodal transportation hub MTH. It not only connects the Hazarat Nizamuddin station of the Indian railway network and the pink line of the Delhi Metro, but also seamlessly connects to the interstate bus terminal. More importantly, this is the starting point of the future - the new Delhi Bawar and Delhi Karnal lines are already in the planning stage, awaiting final approval from the central government.
