On April 11, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the Funan Dezuo Comprehensive Water Conservancy Project in Cambodia was held in the province of Chajiao. Cambodian Prime Minister Hong Manet, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Zhantuo, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, and Chairman of China Communications Group Song Hailiang attended and delivered speeches. About 6000 Cambodian government officials and people from all walks of life attended the event.

Hong Mane stated that the Funan Dezuo comprehensive water conservancy project will comprehensively enhance the country's waterway transportation capacity and drive the construction of ports in the upper reaches of the Mekong River, the Tonle Sap River, the Barcelona River and other river basins. Thank you for the active support provided by the Chinese side for the project construction.

Wang Wenbin stated that the main body of the second phase of the Funan Dezuo Comprehensive Water Conservancy Project will be implemented through PPP by a project company composed of China and Cambodia in accordance with commercial principles, with Cambodia holding 51% of the shares and China holding 49% of the shares.   (Source: Chinese Embassy in Cambodia)Editor/Cheng Liting
