In mid to late March 2026, the 83801 train, loaded with 3444 tons of coal, departed from Jingbian East Station, marking the official breakthrough of the accumulated freight volume of the Haoji Railway over 500 million tons.
As a strategic artery for transporting coal from the north to the south in the country, this heavy-duty railway has had an annual freight volume starting from 4.12 million tons since its opening in 2019, breaking through the barriers of 10 million tons and 100 million tons successively. It not only breaks its own operating record, but also injects strong impetus into national energy security and regional economic development.

Step by step crossing of transportation volume
The growth in transportation volume of Haoji Railway is attributed to the continuous improvement of infrastructure and the in-depth implementation of networking, network supplementation, and strong chain strategies. China Railway Xi'an Bureau and Haoji Company have joined hands to promote the successful integration of railways into more than 10 main lines including Baoxi, Longhai, and Jingguang, and deeply integrate into the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network.
At the consolidation end, Jingbian East Station has undergone two station renovations, and the opening of the Yan Yu connection line has achieved interconnectivity between the two major coal transportation channels of Baoxi and Haoji; The operation of freight nodes such as Taoli Temple South Station has led to 53 supporting collection and distribution projects, with a collection and transportation capacity exceeding 100 million tons.
Through technological upgrades such as adding tracks and canceling extended routes, the daily average number of trains handled at Jingbian East Station exceeds 14000, and the Haoji Railway operates over 80 freight trains per day, with a maximum daily volume exceeding 370000 tons, providing fundamental guarantees for the increase in transportation volume.
From black coal to white goods
While ensuring energy supply, Haoji Railway actively expands its service boundaries and breaks the single coal transportation mode. In November 2025, Jingbian North Station successfully shipped the first white freight train loaded with Shaanbei corn. Currently, the transportation categories have expanded to include various materials such as grain, fertilizers, and soda ash, achieving equal emphasis on black coal and white freight.
This innovative model not only releases idle railway capacity, but also creates a low-carbon logistics corridor spanning North China, Central China to South China. Keywords: North Coal South Transportation, Haoji Railway

Data shows that 71% of the coal on the Haoji Railway currently goes directly to the two lakes and one river, and the production and sales locations can be reached in 1-2 days, shortening the transportation time by about 25 days compared to traditional methods. This not only accelerates the process of railway construction and reduces social logistics costs, but also provides solid infrastructure support for the formation of a unified domestic market.Editor/Cheng Liting
