On April 9, 2026, the the Pearl River Mouth Tunnel of Shenjiang Railway has recently been excavated to 113 meters underwater, setting the world record for the deepest underwater high-speed railway shield tunnel. The tunnel is a key control project of the Shenjiang Railway, with a total length of 13.69 kilometers. After more than 4 years of day and night operation, the domestically produced large-diameter shield machine Shenjiang No.1 has excavated more than 4 kilometers. The deepest part of the tunnel is 116 meters underwater, with huge water pressure and complex geology. It has passed through 13 types of strata, 5 types of composite geology, and 6 fault zones.

The shield machine adopts the method of digging and assembling at the same time. After the cutterhead shatters the rock and soil, the slurry is transported to the ground for processing through pipelines. The pipe segments are prefabricated in the factory and assembled on site, effectively saving construction time. The control room is equipped with a multi angle monitoring and positioning system, which can real-time regulate parameters such as mud flow rate and pressure to ensure precise operation. The Shenjiang Railway starts from Xili in Shenzhen in the east and ends at Jiangmen in the west, with a total length of 116 kilometers. It is an important part of the coastal passage of the national eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railways. After completion, Shenzhen and Jiangmen can be connected within one hour, and it only takes 25 minutes from Zhongshan North Station to Shenzhen Airport. Shenzhen and Guangzhou Nansha Free Trade Zone will be interconnected by high-speed rail in half an hour, and the rail transit network in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area will be further improved.Editor/Gao Xue
