On April 29, 2026, a large fixed wing drone with a maximum takeoff weight of 5.25 tons took off from Dalian, crossed the 340 kilometer Bohai Sea area, and landed smoothly at Qingdao Laixi Airport after about 2 hours. The first domestic cross Bohai unmanned aerial vehicle logistics route has officially opened up, connecting the air corridor of the Bohai Strait.

This drone flies 340 kilometers one-way and is mainly used for low altitude logistics transportation by enterprises such as China Post, covering various types of goods such as daily necessities, business documents, high-value drugs, and emergency supplies. In the existing transportation system in the Bohai region, the railway and highway time between Liaoning and Shandong provinces is generally over 8 hours, while sea transportation takes about 5 to 10 hours. Low altitude cross sea direct transportation reduces transportation time to 2 hours, with significant advantages in flexibility and economy.

Liu Fawang, Deputy Director of the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that cross Bohai low altitude logistics is an important breakthrough in the innovative application of low altitude equipment in complex sea scenarios, filling the gap in cross sea low altitude logistics and improving the comprehensive three-dimensional transportation system around the Bohai Sea.

Zhang Peipei, the person in charge of the Low altitude Economy Industry Special Team in Laixi City, Qingdao, introduced that the local area is accelerating the construction of an aerospace equipment industrial park, promoting the construction of the second phase of airport gas stations, improving the full range of aviation kerosene and aviation gasoline refueling services, and providing comprehensive support for air routes. At present, more than 70 domestic low altitude equipment have completed airworthiness certification in China, and 17 civilian drones and 2 electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft have obtained airworthiness approval. Gao Dongsheng, Chief Economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that the next step will continue to promote innovation in the application of low altitude logistics, government public services, agriculture, forestry, and plant protection, and achieve a two-way drive between low altitude equipment innovation and application scenario innovation, accelerating the iteration and upgrading of low altitude equipment technology products. The low altitude route from Dalian to Qingdao is providing replicable and promotable samples for the construction of the national low altitude logistics network.Editor/Gao Xue
