On May 15th, the Qingning (Qingdao Nanjing) natural gas pipeline and the Jiangsu coastal natural gas pipeline interconnection project were officially put into operation. The project will add an annual gas supply channel of 3 billion cubic meters to the Yangtze River Delta region, further enhancing the safety and resilience of regional natural gas supply.
The project starts from Huai'an Off load Station of Qingning Pipeline and ends at Zhuqiao Off load Connection Station of Jiangsu Coastal Natural Gas Pipeline. The pipeline design pressure is 10 megapascals, and the designed annual gas transmission capacity is 3 billion cubic meters. This is the third interconnected channel built after the interconnection between the "North Gas South" energy corridor and the Jiangsu coastal pipeline. At this point, three interconnected nodes have been formed between the national trunk natural gas pipeline network and the provincial pipeline network in Jiangsu, and a deep integration pattern has basically taken shape.

The Jiangsu Coastal Natural Gas Pipeline is the main energy supply guarantee body at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province, and is a key hub connecting the national backbone pipeline network with local markets. The Qingning Pipeline connects the natural gas pipeline networks in North China and the Yangtze River Delta region, providing two-way mutual protection of onshore natural gas and offshore liquefied natural gas resources. The key connectivity between the two is of great significance for improving regional energy infrastructure.
Sun Jiayong, Deputy Manager of the North Jiangsu Gas Transmission Branch of the West East Gas Pipeline Company of the National Pipeline Network Group, stated that the Qingning pipeline has transported over 6.7 billion cubic meters of gas since its commissioning on December 15, 2020. At present, the multi-source complementary pattern of "northward natural gas southward, offshore gas landing, and storage peak regulation" has been fully formed, and the efficiency of natural gas resource allocation and emergency supply capacity in the eastern region of China have been significantly improved.

At present, a new pattern of "weaving lines into a network" has been formed in the Yangtze River Delta region, including the first and second lines of the West East Gas Pipeline, the Sichuan East Gas Pipeline, the Jiangsu Anhui Pipeline, and the Qingning Pipeline. During the "15th Five Year Plan" period, China will also plan to build over 3200 kilometers of natural gas pipelines in the Yangtze River Delta and surrounding areas, such as the Sichuan East Gas Pipeline Second Line, the Jiangsu Anhui Henan, and the Wen23-Anqing natural gas pipelines. With the successive completion and operation of these new trunk lines and interconnection projects, it will further enhance the density and interconnection level of natural gas pipelines in the Yangtze River Delta and even the central and eastern regions, significantly strengthen the regional energy security guarantee capability, and inject stronger and cleaner green energy into the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta regional integration.
