On May 21, the Tarim Phase II 1.2 Million-Ton/Year Ethylene and Supporting Green & Low-Carbon Demonstration Project—undertaken by PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Company—successfully completed its interim handover. From the commencement of construction on May 28, 2024, to the interim handover on May 21, 2026, the project completed all construction tasks with high quality and efficiency in just 22 months, demonstrating exceptional project management and execution capabilities.

This project is a key national initiative under the "14th Five-Year Plan" and a landmark refining and chemical industry upgrade project for both Xinjiang and PetroChina. Located within the Petroleum and Petrochemical Industrial Park of the Shangku High-tech Zone in Korla, the project involves a total investment of 25.656 billion RMB and covers an area of approximately 4,644 mu. Leveraging the abundant ethane and light hydrocarbon resources of the Tarim Basin, the project features the construction of a 1.2 million-ton/year ethylene plant alongside 11 downstream core processing units. Its product portfolio encompasses HDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, EVA, PP, cis-polybutadiene rubber, as well as basic chemical raw materials such as benzene and toluene.

Centered on the core principles of "green, low-carbon, and independently controllable," the project boasts a localization rate of over 98% for its equipment, with nine of its main processing units utilizing proprietary technologies developed by PetroChina. Significant breakthroughs in domestic manufacturing were achieved for major equipment—such as the fully electric-driven "three machines" (compressor train) for the ethylene plant—while the integration of a domestically pioneered low-concentration CO2 capture technology has reduced the carbon emission intensity of the ethylene unit by 42%. Consequently, the entire facility achieves an annual reduction of 211,200 tons of carbon emissions, establishing itself as a benchmark project for the green transformation of the refining and chemical industry in western China. The successful interim handover of this project marks a new milestone for my country in the fields of independent design for large-scale ethylene plants, equipment localization, and the integration of green and low-carbon technologies.
