From June 3 to 5, 2026, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, Li Jiachao, led a business delegation to visit Uzbekistan and met with Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev, Prime Minister Alipov, and Foreign Minister Saidov. The two sides reached a total of 35 memoranda and agreements, covering areas such as economy, trade, investment, finance, technology, and aviation.
Saidov stated that Hong Kong, as an international financial and business center, has unique experience and enormous potential, and will play an important role in promoting economic modernization and implementing high-tech cooperation projects in Uzbekistan.
Li Jiachao said that under the "one country, two systems" policy, Hong Kong has both national and international opportunities, and will continue to play the role of "super contact" and "super value-added person", further deepen cooperation and exchanges with Uzbekistan in different fields, cooperate with Uzbekistan to achieve high-quality development goals, work together to seize the opportunity of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", and promote the common development of the two regions and even Central Asia. Hong Kong and Uzbekistan are important trade and investment gateways in the Asia Pacific and Central Asia regions, respectively. The two places can leverage complementary advantages, further strengthen economic and trade cooperation, and open up broader markets for enterprises. Uzbekistan has abundant gold reserves, and Hong Kong is actively building an international gold trading center, which can explore more mutually beneficial business opportunities with Uzbekistan in gold trade and professional services.
Li Jiachao introduced that as a result of the visit, the Uzbekistan government has agreed to establish a consulate general in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Hong Kong has reached a preliminary agreement on civil air transport with Uzbekistan, allowing airlines from both regions to utilize air rights for route deployment. Hong Kong and Uzbekistan agree to relax the mutual visa exemption period to 30 days to facilitate people's travel. The Palace Museum in Hong Kong will establish a partnership with the National Museum of History of Uzbekistan, and the two places will jointly hold exhibitions in the future.
