In order to promote the localization of the upstream raw material supply chain for photovoltaics, Australia has recently launched key industry initiatives. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has finalized special funding support and officially launched a feasibility study project for a production base of 50000 tons of polycrystalline silicon per year.

The project is led by Energus and belongs to the Australian Photovoltaic Revitalization Program Solar Sunshot. This survey will focus on the Hunter Energy Hub in New South Wales, and comprehensively evaluate the feasibility and commercial development prospects of building a polysilicon plant here.

From the perspective of production capacity planning, after the completion and operation of the production base, it can stably meet the raw material demand of downstream manufacturing of 10GW-40GW photovoltaics. Industry insiders analyze that the implementation of this project will effectively enhance Australia's voice in the global photovoltaic industry chain and strengthen the country's ability to independently guarantee the supply chain of photovoltaic raw materials.

In terms of funding, the total investment for this feasibility study is 2.81 million Australian dollars, including a special subsidy of 1.4 million Australian dollars from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. The project research has officially started in May 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by July 2027.
