Recently, global tech giant Meta has deepened its cooperation with India's leading enterprise, Reliance Group, and landed a large-scale computing infrastructure project. The two sides have finalized the construction of a large-scale artificial intelligence data center in India, with innovative construction models and supporting green solutions. They will also collaborate on submarine cable projects to comprehensively enhance global AI infrastructure construction.
Joining hands to innovate and build models
On June 10, 2026, Meta officially reached a strategic cooperation agreement with India's Reliance Group to jointly build a large-scale artificial intelligence data center in Jamnagar. The project is planned to be delivered within two years, and this is also Meta's first time landing a large-scale data center in India with a customized construction model.

After completion, the project will be connected to Meta's global business network, providing sufficient computing power support for its various products and artificial intelligence model training. According to the cooperation agreement, Reliance Group is responsible for investing, constructing, and operating a 168MW artificial intelligence data center, while Meta leases long-term computing resources to meet the global needs of artificial intelligence and cloud business development. Reliance Group will provide full process services including project design, construction, and operation and maintenance. This data center is powered entirely by renewable energy and utilizes desalinated seawater resources for equipment cooling, highlighting its green attributes. In addition, the project will also be developed in conjunction with Meta's Waterworth submarine cable project. Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company is continuously expanding its global AI infrastructure and advancing its vision for personal super intelligence development. India has a large number of Internet users and a rapidly developing digital economy. It is a long-term market focused by Meta.
Layout submarine cables to facilitate global network connectivity
Waterworth is a global submarine cable project launched by Meta in 2025 and is currently one of the leading submarine cable projects in terms of planned scale. The total length of the optical cable exceeds 50000 kilometers, connecting North America, South America, Africa, Asia and other regions, and linking core digital economy markets such as the United States, India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Meta plans to build three new cross ocean communication channels to enhance global data transmission efficiency and network stability, laying a solid network foundation for businesses such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The project adopts a 24 pair fiber optic architecture, combined with deep-sea laying and enhanced protection technology, greatly improving the network's ability to resist risks. Meta stated that the submarine cable project is a key part of its global AI layout, providing high-speed and low latency cross-border network support for AI model training and computation.
Deepen cooperation between both parties
The landing of the data center in Jamnagar this time is due to the unique comprehensive conditions in the local area. This coastal city located in the western Indian state of Gujarat is a well-known energy and industrial base, adjacent to the Arabian Sea, with excellent port and logistics conditions. The local electricity and new energy reserves are abundant, the cooling water supply is stable, and it is also close to the west coast submarine cable landing site. It can also access the national high-speed fiber optic network under the Reliance brand, making it an ideal location for computing power projects with multiple advantages. The core digital platform of Reliance Group, Jio Platforms, owns India's leading mobile operator, Reliance Jio. After its commercial launch in 2016, the platform has rapidly risen and now has over 500 million users, accounting for 60% of India's mobile data traffic market. Its business has also extended from traditional telecommunications to areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data centers. Keywords: India, AI data center, submarine cable

As early as 2020, Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms, holding approximately 9.9% of the shares. This data center collaboration marks a new milestone in the partnership between the two companies.Editor/Gong Ziwei
