On June 11-13, 2026, the Prime Minister of Georgia officially visited Kyrgyzstan, marking the first time in 34 years that a Georgian government leader has set foot on this land. At the high-level meeting table in Bishkek, transportation cooperation became the absolute focus. Both sides coincidentally turned their attention to a rising steel artery - the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway, and how to seamlessly connect it with Black Sea ports and the Trans Caspian International Transport Corridor. This is not only a strategic handshake between the two countries, but also a crucial step in reshaping the logistics map of the Eurasian continent.
Open up a new Eurasian channel
During the meeting, both parties outlined in detail the future logistics blueprint. The goods will depart from Kashgar, China, pass through Central Asia via the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway, and then extend westward through the trans Caspian transport network, crossing the Caspian Sea to reach the Caucasus region, and finally connect to Georgia's Black Sea ports, all the way to the European market.

This path will complement the existing intermediate corridor and jointly build a more efficient and resilient Eurasian transportation system. The Jilin side urgently hopes to strengthen its position as an international transportation hub through railway construction, and promote the direct connection between the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway and the infrastructure of Gekou Port; From a national strategic perspective, Gefang emphasizes the importance of increasing the scale of freight transportation across the Caspian Sea and closely monitors the progress of the construction of the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway, believing that this will greatly enhance the transportation connectivity between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
Georgia invests heavily in building foundations
To ensure the carrying capacity of this future channel, Georgia has already started investing real money and silver. On June 2, 2026, the World Bank approved a $372 million loan specifically to support the accessibility and transportation improvement project of the Trans Caspian Transport Corridor in Georgia.

The total scale of the project exceeds 750 million US dollars, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Asian Development Bank jointly participate in financing. A huge amount of funds will be precisely invested in upgrading railway freight transportation, modernizing highways, and reforming supporting systems, aiming to completely break through logistics bottlenecks and welcome the upcoming Central Asian freight wave.
China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway Campaign
As the eastern starting point and key link of the entire channel, the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway is being fully promoted. This railway departs from Kashgar, China, passes through Kyrgyzstan, and ends in Andijan, Uzbekistan, with a total investment of approximately 4.7 billion US dollars. The project is constructed by a joint venture company of three countries, with the Chinese side holding 51% of the shares and Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine each holding 24.5% of the shares. About half of the funds come from a 35 year loan provided by China to the joint venture company. The most difficult section of construction in Kyrgyzstan is about 305 kilometers long, requiring the construction of 50 bridges and 29 tunnels. As of the end of March 2026, over 5000 workers and approximately 5600 specialized equipment have been put into construction, and tunnel excavation, earthwork construction, and bridge construction have blossomed in multiple areas, with the goal of opening to traffic by 2030. For Kyrgyzstan, this railway is a strategic channel for it to break free from inland difficulties and directly participate in east-west freight transportation; For China, it has opened up a new southbound route that bypasses the traditional northern route and extends towards Central Asia; For Uzbekistan, it means adding a direct route to China and more exports to the western market. For Georgia, the opening of this railway will directly activate the transit value of its Black Sea ports and intermediate corridor, which is the core logic of its continuous investment in corridor infrastructure in recent years.Editor/Gao Xue
