When Mongolia's wind and sunshine are wasted by its fragile power grid for a long time, China's energy storage technology is finding a new landing point deep in the grasslands. In June 2026, the EPC general contracting project for battery energy storage in Mongolia, undertaken by China Energy Engineering Anhui Electric Power Construction Second Company, officially began construction with a contract amount of approximately 2 billion yuan. This is Mongolia's first large-scale grid level energy storage project and another landmark project for China's energy storage technology to go global.

Super power bank on the grassland
The project is located in central Mongolia, with a planned total installed capacity of 500MW/1000MWh. It adopts China's mainstream lithium iron phosphate battery system and is equipped with intelligent monitoring, fire protection, and operation and maintenance systems. Mongolia's wind and solar energy resources rank among the top in the world, but its power grid infrastructure is weak, and the rate of wind and solar power curtailment has remained high for a long time.
After the completion of this super energy storage power station, it will effectively smooth out power grid fluctuations, significantly enhance the capacity of new energy consumption, and provide key support for Mongolia's stable power supply and carbon neutrality goals. China Energy Engineering provides full process services from design, equipment, construction to operation and maintenance, creating an integrated solution to become a benchmark for overseas new energy storage. China's energy storage accelerates global layout
The global energy storage market is currently experiencing explosive growth, with Chinese companies holding over 60% of the global market share. The implementation of the Mongolian project not only consolidates the leading position of Chinese enterprises in the field of overseas energy storage, but also accumulates practical experience for the subsequent expansion of bulk energy storage projects in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions. The globalization pace of China's new energy technology and equipment, from photovoltaics to energy storage, is continuously accelerating.Editor/Cheng Liting
