It is difficult to lift and relocate large electrical components weighing 5.6 tons in a narrow electrified station. The construction team cleverly laid steel rails and used hydraulic pushing to explore a new method of uninterrupted construction.

No power outage throughout the construction process

Recently, specialized precision steel rails were laid at the expansion site of the 330 kV Quanyan substation in Wuzhong, Ningxia, between the equipment area and the live busbar.

The HGIS equipment weighing 5.6 tons is smoothly pushed along the track and installed with millimeter level precision positioning, without the need for power outages throughout the construction process. This new technology of translational pushing and positioning can operate continuously, and there is no need to dismantle the track after it is laid, completing the installation of 15 devices at once.

The venue space is narrow

The 330 kV Quanyan substation is responsible for supplying power to surrounding factories and residents. This expansion will add 4 new outgoing lines and 15 sets of HGIS intervals. The project leader stated that the biggest difficulty in construction is the narrow working area, which makes it extremely difficult to carry out large-scale equipment construction on a small site. In the past, large equipment in substations relied on cranes for lifting, which had strict conditions: firstly, sufficient working space was required, and a safe distance of 7 meters was required between the crane and the live busbar; Secondly, most construction projects require power outages.

This site is in continuous operation and cannot be powered off. In addition, the space inside the site is limited, and the crane does not have enough turning space. Traditional lifting methods cannot be implemented. How to safely transport more than ten sets of equipment weighing over five tons without power outages has become an urgent problem that construction teams need to solve.

Innovation track push

To solve the construction difficulties, the local power supply enterprise has formed a technical research team, conducted on-site surveys, repeated deduction experiments, and innovatively adopted ground rail transportation solutions. The construction personnel lay high-precision steel rails between the equipment base and the channel as a dedicated transportation channel for the equipment. The crane is only responsible for placing the equipment on the track translation platform, and the subsequent displacement work is completed by hydraulic pushing equipment. The dual oil cylinders alternate and slowly push the equipment to the precise position.

Double protection is set up during construction, with two gantry frames assisting in fixing equipment to prevent tipping over. The total weight of the equipment and platform is below the upper limit of the gantry frame's load-bearing capacity. On site real-time monitoring equipment and live busbar spacing, maintaining a safe distance of at least 7.5 meters throughout the entire process, strictly implementing safety risk control, and eliminating illegal rush work. All 15 devices were successfully installed without any violations, accidents, or safety hazards throughout the process.

This translation and pushing technology does not require power outage coordination, solves the problem of equipment installation in narrow areas with live electricity, and transforms high-altitude high-risk operations into ground controllable construction. It can be used as a reference for substation expansion projects in various regions. The current expansion project is about to be completed, and after it is put into operation, it will improve the Wuzhong 330 kV power grid, enhance the regional transmission capacity and power supply stability level.Editor/Gong Ziwei
