7 milliseconds, the wind from Tianshan turns into the light of Chongqing. On June 10, 2025, the ± 800 kV Hami Chongqing ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project was put into operation for power transmission. This power highway spanning the Tianshan Mountains, Hexi River, and Qinling Mountains has been running smoothly for a whole year now. As of 24:00 on June 8th, the cumulative amount of transmitted electricity has exceeded 25.1 billion kilowatt hours.

Mountain cities have more confidence in summer

Chongqing is the only province in Southwest China with net energy input due to its lack of coal and water resources. In the summer of 2025, the electricity load of Chongqing's power grid broke records four times. On August 5th, it exceeded 30 million kilowatts for the first time, reaching 30.28 million kilowatts. On that day, Xinjiang Power transmitted 4 million kilowatts of electricity to Chongqing, accounting for 38.7% of the total amount of foreign electricity entering Chongqing.

As the first ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project from China's Shagehuang new energy base, the proportion of new energy installed capacity in its 14.2 million kilowatt power supply exceeds 70%. Hami Barkol, the world's largest single phase integrated solar thermal storage project, is rushing to be put into operation, including 1350 MW photovoltaic and 150 MW solar thermal power generation equipment. The project has driven upstream and downstream investment of over 100 billion yuan, boosted the output value of the local power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing industry by 20 billion yuan, and created more than 30000 jobs.

Green power is transforming computing power

Adequate green electricity not only ensures supply, but also reshapes the industrial logic. Chongqing enterprises are purchasing green electricity to enhance their international competitiveness. From primary aluminum processing to electronic manufacturing, low-carbon electricity is becoming an export passport. The deeper changes lie in computing power. Hundreds of servers in the Hami Yiwu Computing Innovation Demonstration Zone are operating at full capacity, converting green electricity into data streams on-site.

Chongqing car companies have transferred high energy consuming tasks such as autonomous driving model training to Hami, significantly reducing the iteration cycle of AI algorithms. From power transmission to computing power transmission, lighting up thousands of lights in 7 milliseconds and driving industrial upgrading in 20 milliseconds, the two places are opening up a new channel for computing collaboration. Keywords: Green power, Xinjiang power entering Chongqing

Since its launch one year ago, State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power and State Grid Chongqing Electric Power have adhered to the safety bottom line and lean operation and maintenance, fully safeguarding this energy artery. The wind of Tianshan continues to empower the future of the mountain city in two forms: light and computing power.Editor/Cheng Liting
