Recently, with the release of the tender announcement for the pre feasibility study of the La Guajira Atlantic Railway Corridor connection line, this South American country that has long relied on road transportation is attempting to pave a new steel logistics artery along the Caribbean coast, taking a crucial first step towards the century old dream of revitalizing railway transportation.

Initiate pre feasibility study consulting services

ANI announced an investment of approximately 11.485 billion Colombian pesos, equivalent to 3.23 million US dollars, to hire professional consulting firms to conduct comprehensive research. The scope of work is not limited to technical survey of the route direction, but also deeply covers economic and financial calculations, legal compliance, feasibility of land acquisition, and social environmental risk assessment. Ultimately, a comparative plan with both passenger and freight transportation functions will be submitted to provide scientific basis for government decision-making.

Open up the gateway to the northern Caribbean Sea

The core mission of this project is to seamlessly integrate the northernmost province of La Guajira into the national railway network. As Colombia's main coal and foreign trade export hub, the province has long faced bottlenecks in transportation and distribution. The new connecting line aims to strengthen the railway linkage between ports such as Santa Marta and Barranquilla and the inland hinterland, significantly reduce import and export logistics costs through sea rail intermodal transportation, and activate the economic development potential of the Caribbean region. Reshaping the Comprehensive Transportation and Logistics System

This is an important milestone in Colombia's national strategy to revitalize railway transportation. The government hopes to build a multimodal transport system that connects railways, highways, inland waterway transportation, and seaports in a three-dimensional manner, reversing the situation of excessive dependence on expensive road transportation. If the corridor is built in the long term, it will significantly enhance the level of regional connectivity and provide new connecting nodes for potential infrastructure cooperation between China and Latin America in the future.Editor/Gao Xue
