On June 18, 2026, at the construction site on the banks of the Nile River, a huge crane was lifting the brand new overhead contact line pillars into place. This is not only the stacking of steel and cement, but also a crucial step towards modernizing Egypt's national railway network.

Consortium wins large orders
On June 18, 2026, Alstom, together with Egyptian local construction companies Rowad Modern Engineering and Concrete Plus, signed four modernization contracts with the Egyptian National Railway Company ENR, with a total amount of approximately 690 million euros. Alstom is responsible for approximately 300 million euros, covering the October 6th City to Alexandria Corridor and the Belbass to Ramadan 10th City Railway, with the aim of improving transportation safety and reliability through systematic upgrades.

Comprehensive empowerment of digital systems
Two corridors will deploy a new generation of digital railway systems simultaneously. The core project includes installing the European train control system ETCS L1, building a modern communication network, upgrading power supply facilities, and introducing advanced dispatch platforms. Through real-time collaborative management, the project will completely change the operation mode of existing routes and significantly enhance the efficient linkage capability between the Eastern Logistics Corridor and the Coastal Main Line. Localization promotes industrial upgrading
The localization rate of this project is set at about 50%, and Egyptian local engineers and suppliers will be deeply embedded in the engineering construction chain. This not only means the transfer of railway technology, but also will drive the growth of Egypt's local infrastructure industry chain, strengthen the logistics link between inland industrial zones and seaports, and assist in the construction of Egypt's economic corridor.Editor/Gao Xue
