The construction of the million kilowatt pumped storage power station in Yongchang, Gansu continues to accelerate. After the implementation of the water transmission and power generation system, the project has once again released the bidding quota for the core main section. Top hydropower construction enterprises will compete on the same stage to safeguard the high-quality construction of projects.

Clear project overview

This bidding is for the civil engineering and metal structure installation project of the downstream reservoir of CHD Yongchang 1.2 million kilowatt pumped storage power station in Gansu Province. The project is located in Hexibao Town, Yongchang County, Jinchang City, with a total investment of 9.5 billion yuan and a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. It is equipped with four single 300 megawatt generator sets, with a designed annual power generation of 1.169 billion kilowatt hours and an annual pumping electricity consumption of 1.559 billion kilowatt hours. The site for the lower reservoir is located on the terrace of Jinchuan River, 1.5 kilometers downstream of Hanjiaxia Reservoir. The bidding deadline is July 28, 2026. The bidding content covers a complete set of supporting projects such as dam construction, reservoir anti-seepage, river regulation, permanent roads, and water conservation and environmental protection.

Empowering Regional Energy

This project is a key project for peak shaving and supply guarantee of new energy in Gansu. The installed capacity of new energy in Gansu has exceeded 40 million kilowatts. The province plans to have 27 pumped storage stations with a total installed capacity of 33.5 million kilowatts. Currently, 8 projects are under construction with an installed capacity of 11.28 million kilowatts. Keywords: pumped storage power station, Northwest New Energy

The current pace of construction for pumped storage projects is slowing down, and competition among various main sections is fierce. Several infrastructure companies have already entered the market in advance to participate in the construction of supporting projects. After the completion of the project, it will effectively optimize the regulation capacity of Gansu power grid, absorb wind and solar new energy, and help build a new power system and achieve the dual carbon goals in the northwest region.Editor/Min Jing
