In order to meet the new demand for regional freight and passenger transportation and improve the layout of railway transportation in the north, Vietnam has recently optimized and adjusted the launch plan for core cross-border railway projects. By implementing multiple optimization measures such as streamlining the main line, adding branch lines, and upgrading road section standards, the efficiency of route traffic has been significantly improved, construction and operation costs have been reduced, and cross-border economic and trade exchanges between China and Vietnam have been empowered.

Optimize the route layout

Recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction submitted an investment adjustment plan for the Lao Cai Hanoi Coastal Defense Railway project to the government, with the participation of China Railway Fourth Engineering Group Corporation in updating and optimizing the plan. The plan will adjust the endpoint of the line from Lixian Station to Nanhai Fangzhan Station, reducing the length of the main line by 27 kilometers, and the total length of the main line after adjustment will be 362 kilometers. The original plan for the project included a mainline of 389 kilometers and a branch line of 27.9 kilometers, with a total investment of approximately 8.37 billion US dollars. The first phase of station construction will be approved and launched in 2025, with plans to complete the entire line before 2030. At the same time, the project will add new short distance branch lines, improve regional road network connectivity, and reduce the cost of goods transfer.

Improving quality, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency

This adjustment includes line upgrades and optimization of supporting projects, the construction of an 8.4-kilometer Anyuan Jialin Railway connection line, and the renovation of Jialin Station, which can create local economic benefits worth billions of yuan annually. The section from Beihong to Nanhai Defense Zone has been changed from a single track to a double track construction, eliminating the need to build two new technical stations, reducing the land occupation by 115 hectares, and saving a lot of construction funds.
