The Talatan Photovoltaic Industrial Park, located in Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, sits within the core zone of the Three Rivers Source ecological security barrier on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Leveraging its abundant hydropower, solar, and wind energy resources, the region has pioneered a closed-loop development pathway in which renewable energy development drives ecological restoration, and ecological recovery in turn feeds back into industrial upgrading. The once sandstorm-ravaged Gobi desert has been completely transformed, giving rise to a thriving oasis amid the sands.

Under the shelter of large-scale photovoltaic arrays, the average wind speed within the park is nearly halved, direct solar radiation intensity is weakened, and soil water evaporation is drastically reduced, creating vital microclimatic conditions for the natural restoration of vegetation.

The practice at Talatan demonstrates that large-scale clean energy development and systematic restoration of ecologically fragile zones are mutually reinforcing. This pioneering model of "promoting ecological protection through development, and feeding ecological conservation back into development" offers a compelling blueprint for the coordinated advancement of energy transition and ecological governance in arid and semi-arid regions in China and beyond.Editor/Min Jing
