Basra is located in the lower reaches of two rivers, with a combination of arid climate and salinization of water bodies. The continuous shortage of water resources restricts urban development, and improving water supply facilities has become an urgent need in the local area. The signing of a large-scale water supply subcontracting contract by the Water and Electricity Fifth Bureau not only creates business growth, but also serves as another practical verification of China's water engineering technology in the Middle East market.

Clear project overview

Sinohydro 5 has signed a contract with Iraqi company Rayda to subcontract the water supply system for the Basra seawater desalination project, with a contract amount of approximately 8.925 billion yuan. The project is located in Basra Province and is responsible for constructing a daily water supply system of one million cubic meters, supporting 240 kilometers of pipelines, one main pump station, and nine receiving pump stations. The construction period is limited to 6 months with a main construction period of 1350 days, and the defect liability period is 24 months. The construction scope does not include the main project of the desalination plant area. After the project is put into operation, it will effectively alleviate the regional water shortage contradiction and stabilize the supply of water for people's livelihood and industry.
