Many parts of the Middle East suffer from perennial water shortages, and the pressure on Basra's livelihood and industrial water supply continues to rise. Sinohydro 5 has won a large-scale water delivery subcontracting project, entering the long-distance water delivery sub market, which not only alleviates the local water shortage, but also reflects a new development direction for China's infrastructure going global. 

Basra is located in the lower reaches of two rivers, with a combination of arid climate and salinization of water bodies. The continuous shortage of water resources restricts urban development, and improving water supply facilities has become an urgent need in the local area. The signing of a large-scale water supply subcontracting contract by the Water and Electricity Fifth Bureau not only creates business growth, but also serves as another practical verification of China's water engineering technology in the Middle East market.

Clear project overview

Sinohydro 5 has signed a contract with Iraqi company Rayda to subcontract the water supply system for the Basra seawater desalination project, with a contract amount of approximately 8.925 billion yuan. The project is located in Basra Province and is responsible for constructing a daily water supply system of one million cubic meters, supporting 240 kilometers of pipelines, one main pump station, and nine receiving pump stations. The construction period is limited to 6 months with a main construction period of 1350 days, and the defect liability period is 24 months. The construction scope does not include the main project of the desalination plant area. After the project is put into operation, it will effectively alleviate the regional water shortage contradiction and stabilize the supply of water for people's livelihood and industry. Transformation of the pattern of going global

Unlike traditional road and bridge energy projects, this order marks the shift of Chinese enterprises towards deepening their involvement in the water supply and demand track. The high temperature and high salinity environment in the Middle East imposes strict standards on pipeline anti-corrosion and on-site construction. Relying on mature construction systems, schedule control, and cost advantages, domestic enterprises continue to seize the Middle East water market dominated by European and American enterprises, upgrading their business from single construction to integrated solution output. At the same time, the industry still needs to view overseas projects rationally, as risks such as geopolitical security, exchange rate fluctuations, and payment cycles objectively exist.
