T é cnicas Reunidas has secured two Upper Zakum oil field EPCI contracts from ADNOC, with a total value exceeding 5 billion euros. This is the largest order in history obtained by the company as an independent contractor, and also part of the world's second-largest offshore oil field development plan. The expansion goal is clear: to increase the production capacity of Upper Zakum to 1.5 million barrels per day.

5.75 billion US dollars injected into artificial island

The Upper Zakum oil field is located approximately 84 kilometers off the coast of Abu Dhabi, with an equity structure jointly held by ADNOC (main operator), ExxonMobil (28%), and Japan's INPEX/JODCO (12%). The project adopts an artificial island development model, with 4 artificial islands and over 1000 well slots built. The largest island is equivalent to the size of 135 American football fields.

T é cnicas Reunidas' scope of work covers the installation of key equipment such as compressors, storage tanks, and water treatment facilities on existing artificial islands and Zirku Island, as well as offshore production facilities, subsea infrastructure, export pipelines, and old facility renovation projects. As of the end of June 2026, the company's order reserves have reached 13.9 billion euros, approximately 16 billion US dollars. The remaining third contract package has been awarded to NMDC Energy, a local company in the United Arab Emirates.

The seven-year collaboration trajectory of T é cnicas Reunidas

T é cnicas Reunidas is not the first to venture into Upper Zakum. In 2019, the company was awarded the design engineering contract for the oil field. The landing of this EPCI contract marks the extension of cooperation between the two parties from the design phase to the construction phase. Keywords: offshore oil fields, Middle East news

The expansion plan of Upper Zakum will be implemented in stages: first, the production capacity will be increased from 640000 barrels per day to 750000 barrels per day through the UZ 750 project, and then increased to 1.2 million barrels per day through the two-stage UZ 1.2MMBD project, ultimately achieving the goal of 1.5 million barrels per day. ADNOC and its partners have committed a total investment of approximately 30 billion US dollars. When the $5.75 billion order from the Spanish engineering giant is secured, Abu Dhabi's offshore oil field expansion is moving from blueprint to construction phase.Editor/Cheng Liting
