The Nyon River flows quietly through the rainforests of Cameroon, once splitting villages on both sides in half with surging waves, and small wooden boats carrying river crossers whose lives are uncertain. Nowadays, a hundred meter steel beam lies horizontally on the water surface, and Chinese enterprises use top pushing technology to build a pathway, making the hope of facing each other across the river finally become the road under their feet.
New bridge completed
The Niyong River Bridge in Cameroon, constructed by Chinese enterprises, recently held a successful completion and opening ceremony. The project is located in Makak Town, Nyon Kayle Region, Cameroon. The area is sparsely populated with dense rainforests and the Nyon River runs through it. The local river course is gentle and quiet in the small dry season. In the rainy season, rainstorm occurs frequently, the river rises sharply, and the danger of the river course is prominent. From an aerial view, the brand new Niyong River Bridge spans a wide river surface, with a green coating that blends seamlessly with the rainforest ecology on both sides. The bridge started construction in June 2024, using a concrete double cylindrical pier structure to firmly stand on the riverbank and in the river channel. It is a key control project of the local road network and the first bridge in Cameroon to be constructed using steel beam jacking technology.

Say goodbye to dangerous crossing
For a long time, small wooden boats on the river have been the only way for people on both sides of the Nyong River to cross the river. During the rainy season, when the water level rises sharply, crossing the river poses extremely high risks and repeatedly threatens the safety of people's lives. Local villager Bibum Viktor expressed deep gratitude. His family had unfortunately encountered an accident while crossing the river, and the completion of the bridge completely ended the history of dangerous ferry services in the area. This bridge, constructed by CCCC First Highway Engineering Group, is a key livelihood project that the local people have been looking forward to for many years. The over 100 meter new bridge has completely reversed the difficult situation of people commuting by ferry. On the day of the opening ceremony, thousands of surrounding villagers dressed in festive costumes, singing and dancing, spontaneously gathered at the scene to express sincere gratitude to the Chinese builders.

Connect the entire region
The Minister of Public Works of Cameroon stated in his speech that the Nyon River Bridge has significantly improved the efficiency of regional transportation, ensuring the safety and convenience of people's travel, as well as promoting agricultural development, facilitating regional linkage, and driving local economic growth. As a local Cameroonian, the Minister of Social Affairs stated that the new bridge will comprehensively improve people's livelihoods: children's education will be safer, and people's travel for business, agriculture, and medical treatment will be more convenient. The local resources are abundant, including cocoa, palm, taro and other crops. Residents admitted that the bridge has opened up an export channel for agricultural products, giving the people more confidence in increasing their income and becoming prosperous. The mayor stated that this bridge is not only a transportation facility, but also a new development opportunity to promote rural revitalization and increase people's income. This project is also a vivid practice of China Africa infrastructure cooperation under the framework of the the Belt and Road. It helps Africa's connectivity with high-quality infrastructure, deepens bilateral mutual benefit and win-win results, and continues to write a new chapter of Silk Road friendship.Editor/Gong Ziwei
