On August 18, 2026, Guangzhou Port Center welcomed an important signing. Representatives from Guangzhou Port Corporation, Minsheng Shipping, China Railway Lianji, and PSA China solemnly signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation to jointly promote the construction of the Chongqing Guangzhou Port sea rail intermodal transportation channel. A multimodal transportation artery connecting the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area is moving from blueprint to reality.

Four party collaboration boutique route
The signing parties each have their own advantages. Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd. has the comprehensive hub port operation capability in southern China. Minsheng Shipping is the largest container fleet in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and a resource provider for international shipping routes near the ocean. China Railway Lianji has control over the national railway container yard network. PSA China has global layout experience in investment and operation of port terminals and railway central stations. Following the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and market-oriented operation, the four parties are working together to create a high-quality sea rail intermodal route, improving the efficiency and service quality of the channel from Chongqing and Chengdu via railway to Guangzhou container terminal and then to sea freight. At the same time, we will jointly develop sea rail intermodal transportation, international train intermodal transportation, cross-border railways, and end-to-end supply chain products in the Greater Bay Area.

Three major channels intersect in the Greater Bay Area
This cooperation will promote the development of the Chengdu Chongqing corridor, China Europe freight trains, and Central Asia freight trains through the Greater Bay Area and other major trade and logistics channels in the ASEAN region and around the world. Chongqing and Chengdu, as important nodes of the Western Land Sea New Corridor and the China Europe Railway Express, are closely connected to the southwestern inland and southern coastal ports through the sea rail intermodal transportation channel of Guangzhou Port, forming an important logistics node for domestic and international dual circulation. The radiating and driving role of Guangzhou Port as an international shipping hub in South China will be further strengthened, and the high-quality development of the world-class port cluster in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area will continue to be empowered. Through resource complementarity, market synergy, single order system, and digital empowerment, customer service capabilities, operational efficiency, and business value will be comprehensively improved. Upgrade of multimodal transport services
This signing marks a new stage of cooperation between the four parties in the fields of port and shipping supply chain and multimodal transport. At present, Guangzhou Port has opened more than 40 sea rail intermodal train lines. By 2025, the sea rail intermodal container volume will reach 363000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 43.1%, making it an important seaport in the southwest region. Guangzhou Port is promoting the construction of inland ports, and currently has established six inland ports in Kunming, Guiyang, Nanning, Changsha, Chongqing, and Chengdu. These inland ports are used as nodes to extend the sea rail intermodal transportation service network. By building an efficient multimodal transport service system, it will effectively promote regional economic development, reduce logistics costs, and inject strong new momentum into promoting domestic and international dual circulation and serving high-quality regional economic development.Editor/Gong Ziwei
