In the vast land of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, sunlight is being transformed into a steady stream of clean kinetic energy. The China Energy Alliance has officially signed a contract for the Midert Phase I solar energy storage project. This is the largest integrated solar energy storage project in Africa, which will deeply integrate hot sunlight with advanced energy storage and become a new benchmark for China Africa green energy cooperation.

The project is officially signed

Recently, China Energy Engineering International Group, Southwest Institute, and Construction Group formed a joint venture and signed the EPC contract for the Midert Phase I solar energy storage project in Morocco. After completion, the project will become the largest integrated solar energy storage project in Africa and an important benchmark for China Energy Construction in the African new energy market.

Highlight the engineering value

The project is located in Midert, Morocco, with a planned capacity of 630 megawatts of photovoltaics and 1300 megawatt hours of electrochemical energy storage, covering the entire process of survey and design, supply, construction, commissioning and acceptance. As a key project in Morocco's energy transformation, energy storage can achieve grid peak and frequency regulation, smooth out photovoltaic fluctuations, enhance grid stability and new energy consumption capacity, and support the country's 2030 renewable energy development goals.

As early as the International Infrastructure Summit Forum in June 2026, the joint venture signed equipment procurement intentions with Longi Green Energy and Sunshine Power. Plan 632.85MWp photovoltaic and 1323.96MWh energy storage, with parameters matching the EPC project to ensure efficient construction of the project. Deeply cultivate the local market

The Midert project is another major breakthrough for China to build in Morocco. Previously, key projects such as gas turbines and high-speed trains have been completed, and the business has shifted from individual projects to large-scale rolling development in multiple fields of energy infrastructure. In the next step, the joint venture will give full play to the advantages of the whole industrial chain, strictly control the construction quality, create a model for China Africa green energy cooperation, and help jointly build green high-quality development along the the Belt and Road.Editor/Gong Ziwei
