From assembly workshops along the Suez Canal to intelligent equipment platforms along the Nile River, Chinese intelligent manufacturing is deeply embedded in the path of Egypt's automotive industry transition. Jiangsu Changhong Intelligent has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Italian partners to extend the industrial chain upstream and help Egypt move from simple assembly to a complete manufacturing ecosystem.

Sign a memorandum of cooperation

On September 3, 2026, the Egyptian Ministry of Industry, the Egyptian Sovereign Fund, and Jiangsu Changhong Intelligent Equipment signed an MOU. Changhong Intelligence, in collaboration with Italian FIDIA company, plans to build a factory planning, engineering, and intelligent equipment platform for transportation manufacturing in Egypt.

This cooperation promotes Changhong Intelligent's expansion of its business in Egypt to the upstream of the industrial chain, from vehicle manufacturers and production line projects to local engineering design, equipment manufacturing and assembly, maintenance, and technical service platform construction. The project is currently only in the memorandum stage, and the investment amount, site, and start date have not been announced yet. Egypt has made it clear that it will gradually implement engineering, design, manufacturing, assembly, after-sales and other links locally, carry out training and technology transfer, and serve Egypt and surrounding markets.

Projects have already landed in Egypt

Changhong Intelligent has previously landed two automotive projects in Egypt. In April 2026, the company issued the first batch of equipment to the MMM vehicle construction project and AFA factory upgrade project in Egypt. The MMM project is invested by Mansour Group, and Changhong Intelligent undertakes the turnkey general contracting of welding, painting, and final assembly, covering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. In the initial stage of the project, the annual production capacity is 50000 vehicles, and it can be expanded to 100000 vehicles in the long term, compatible with both fuel and electric vehicles.

The AFA project focuses on the renovation of existing factories, completing the expansion of coating capacity, upgrading of welding and assembly conveyor systems, and achieving an annual production capacity of over 100000 vehicles after the renovation. The preliminary project brought equipment and engineering capabilities into Egypt, and this MOU aims to retain some of the engineering and equipment manufacturing capabilities locally.

Going abroad brings new opportunities

The Egyptian automotive industry is upgrading from simple assembly to a complete value chain, with industrial policies linked to localization rate, output, and exports, focusing on supporting parts, engineering capabilities, and technology transfer. This platform can provide services to multiple local vehicle and parts enterprises, assist in the construction and expansion of factories, and attract domestic and foreign enterprises to improve the local automotive supply chain. This is highly in line with Changhong Intelligent's business direction, as the company has over 30 countries of turnkey project experience, specializing in automotive enterprise planning and integration of three major process systems. Promoting the localization of design, manufacturing, and service can transform the delivery of disposable equipment into long-term regional business.

After the platform is built, it is urgent to supplement the local engineering equipment supporting capacity. Domestic enterprises can focus on welding, painting, final assembly systems, automation control, metal processing, maintenance training and other tracks. Enterprises with experience in Egyptian projects are more likely to enter the secondary supply chain, focusing on key nodes such as site selection, formal contracts, project companies, and local equipment lists. The opportunities for Chinese enterprises targeting Egypt have changed, no longer just exporting production lines, but participating in long-term factory operations. Establishing local manufacturing, debugging, and after-sales capabilities as early as possible is necessary to seize the opportunities of the new round of industrial projects.Editor/Gong Ziwei
