On the open fields of Ulleska village, the foundation construction of 11 Nordex N175 wind turbines is steadily progressing. Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec has officially received 132 million euros in project financing for its 77 MW wind power project here.

This is Scatec's first onshore wind power project in Europe, and also marks a new acceleration period for the development of wind power clusters in the county of Braila in eastern Romania. In the first half of 2026, Romania's newly installed wind power capacity increased by 47% year-on-year, and the clean energy market in Eastern Europe is becoming the core growth pole for Nordic energy companies' layout.

Lock in profit space with differential contracts

This financing is jointly provided by BCR Bank of Romania and its parent company Erste Group. The total investment of the project is 168 million euros, and the financing structure adopts a non recourse project debt plus equity, with a leverage ratio of 60%. The price difference contract obtained by the project covers 57% of the expected power generation, with the electricity price locked at 71.3 euros per megawatt hour. The remaining electricity will be directly traded in the Romanian electricity wholesale market, and the stable profit mechanism lays a solid foundation for the long-term stable operation of the project.

The project is expected to officially enter commercial operation in the second half of 2028, with an annual power generation capacity that can meet the electricity needs of over 70000 local households.

Regional green power layout continues to deepen

As the core subsidiary of Erste Group in Romania, BCR has invested a total of 450 million euros in financing for the energy industry in the first half of 2026, of which 362 million euros went towards renewable energy projects.

In addition to the Ullesca wind power project, the bank also provided a loan of 42.5 million euros for Scatec's total 190 MW solar projects in Dorj and Olt counties, and provided a financing of 47 million euros for OMV Petrom's 49.8 MW Gura V ă ii wind power project.
