Saudi Arabia's New Future City is accelerating the construction of its port collection and distribution system, with plans to build a new freight railway trunk line to fill the gap between the North South Railway and the Red Sea. Relying on years of engineering accumulation in sand, domestic rail transit enterprises have ushered in project competition opportunities.

Planning a new line to connect with the seaport

According to MEED in the Middle East, Saudi New Future City Development Company Neom plans to build a freight railway that will connect the Red Sea port of Oxagon with the North South Railway's Barcelona hub station, with a total length of over 400 kilometers. The project has now released a letter of intent for design consultation, including feasibility study concept design and route selection. There is currently no railway connection to Oxagon Port, and goods can only be transported by road and sea. After the completion of the new line, the north-south railway will have the first Red Sea outlet, and freight can radiate to multiple industrial clusters in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Chinese enterprises accumulate and embrace opportunities

Chinese enterprises have already been deeply involved in the construction of Neom and Saudi railway projects. In 2024, the China Port Consortium won the DB contract for Oxagon Port Terminal 1, with a contract amount of approximately 1 billion US dollars. Chinese enterprises participate in the construction of the North South Railway in Saudi Arabia and supply railway freight cars. China Railway Construction Corporation has landed benchmark projects such as the Mecca Light Rail North South Railway and the Mecca High Speed Railway, with rich local engineering experience, to assist in participating in the competition for this freight railway project.Editor/Min Jing
