On the vacant land of the Beard campus in Canberra, the CDC data center phase II project has just received conditional development approval from the Capital Territory Planning Bureau, and the expansion of computing power in the Australian capital region has officially entered the fast lane of landing. The Beard Park, which has already started construction, is rapidly advancing towards becoming the core node of Australia's national digital infrastructure.

84 MW new computing power project approved
The total investment of the Beard 2 project is AUD 203.5 million, with a total construction area of 29924 square meters and 12 data halls inside. It will add 84 megawatts of computing power capacity to the Beard Park. The project is located at Block 25, Zone 11, No. 23 Tantalum Street, adjacent to the existing Beard 1 data center, which has 10 data halls and a current capacity of 39 megawatts.
After the merger of the two facilities, the total construction area is approximately 45272 square meters, and the new building covers an area of approximately 10357 square meters, much larger than the existing Beard 1's 6824 square meters. The project is equipped with an emergency generator on site, which can provide up to 20 megawatts of electricity and reserve a construction space of 3830 square meters for the future substation. Only 23 new parking spaces will be added, and vehicles can enter and exit through Tantalum Street and Cooper Lane.
Promote subsequent development under compliance conditions
The conditional approval issued by the Australian Capital Territory Planning Authority covers the entire chain of requirements for construction environment management, waste and polluted soil treatment, oil storage, soil erosion and sediment control, noise management, and water use regulations. The project can only be officially launched after all conditions are met. Keywords: data center, computing power

This approval signifies that CDC can officially advance the next stage of development for Beard Park. The current decision does not mean that the facilities have been put into operation or have officially started construction. Combined with the long-term order of 555 MW from US customers previously received by CDC, the Beard 2 project will become an important support for its computing power layout in the Canberra region, further consolidating the position of the Australian Capital Territory as a national level digital infrastructure core carrier area.Editor/Cheng Liting
