A qualitative change in coal chemical industry is brewing in the Ningdong Gobi on the east bank of the Yellow River. When the world's first million ton DMTO-III reactor was erected, National Energy Group Ningxia Coal Industry broke the shackles of old production lines through technological iteration, allowing black coal to extend into a new chain of high-end materials in green transformation.

Recently, the National Energy Group's Ningxia Coal Industry MTP technical renovation project completed the lifting of core over limit equipment: the world's first 3.6 million tons/year DMTO-III methanol to olefin unit's third stage reactor was lifted into place. The project is supporting the construction of multiple sets of chemical plants such as DMTO-III, EVA, LDPE, HDPE, etc. The civil engineering and equipment installation are steadily advancing. The project adopts the independent DMTO third-generation technology of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics. After completion, the product will expand from single polypropylene to various high-end materials, with an annual polymer production capacity of 1.35 million tons, helping to extend and supplement the coal chemical industry chain.

The two original MTP units of Guoneng Ning Coal were put into operation in 2010 and 2014 respectively, with high energy consumption. This renovation will stop using old equipment and build new MTO, EVA, LDPE, HDPE equipment, supporting facilities such as tank farms, railways, and pipe galleries. The project is located in Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base, covering an area of about 67 hectares with a total investment of 11.8 billion yuan.
