The natural gas from the North Sea is flowing southward along the pipeline, bringing cleaner warmth to thousands of households in the Netherlands. Equinor and Eneco have signed a five-year gas supply agreement to build a pragmatic bridge between energy security and green transformation with traceable low-carbon Norwegian natural gas.

Norwegian energy giant Equinor has signed a long-term natural gas supply agreement with Dutch energy company Eneco to deliver 9 billion kilowatt hours of low-carbon Norwegian natural gas to the Dutch gas pipeline network annually, with supply starting in October. The agreement is equipped with a verifiable digital traceability mechanism, and the greenhouse gas emissions level of this batch of natural gas is nearly 12% lower than the national average in the Netherlands.

Sign a long-term gas supply agreement

Equinor and Eneco have signed a five-year gas supply contract, supplying approximately 9 billion kilowatt hours of natural gas annually, equivalent to 900 million cubic meters. The gas supply work has officially started on October 1, 2026. The gas source is taken from the Norwegian continental shelf. Compared to other gas sources in Europe, the greenhouse gas emissions from production and pipeline transportation here are relatively lower, and other commercial details of the agreement have not been disclosed to the public yet.

Low exhaust source matching traceability

Senior Vice President of Natural Gas and Power Business at Equinor, Helle Erstgau Christiansen, stated that this is the third long-term agreement reached between the two parties in 2026, and he is pleased that the cooperation between the two parties continues to deepen.

The natural gas supplied under the three agreements can all rely on the traceability platform to provide verification attribute information and record the origin of the gas source and upstream carbon emissions data. This also confirms that European energy companies recognize Norway's advantages of stable natural gas supply and low carbon emissions. In addition to the physical delivery of natural gas, Equinor will also transfer verified environmental attribute data to Eneco through a digital platform. The greenhouse gas emissions from natural gas in this contract are 11.8% lower than the average level of natural gas in the Dutch pipeline network. Interpreting the value of cooperation for enterprises

Eneco Customer Business Director Selena Toure proposed that the company's vision is to create a sustainable energy future, but many households and small and micro businesses still need natural gas as an energy guarantee in the short term. Based on this agreement, Eneco can supply Norwegian natural gas to Dutch residents and small and micro businesses, helping to strengthen energy supply security in Europe.Editor/Gong Ziwei
