Recently, on a vast desert in Bukhara Oblast, Uzbekistan, AMEA Power signed an agreement with the Ukrainian side to invest in the construction of a 250MW/1000MWh Aftabi independent battery energy storage project. This is an important achievement reached during the first meeting of the Council of Foreign Investors in the Uzi Fuel Energy sector. At the signing ceremony, Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojayev, Energy Minister Sherzod Khojayev, and AMEA Power Chairman Hussein Arnois witnessed together.

Gigawatt hour project landing

The scale of the Aftabi project is 250MW/1000MWh. The investment agreement and energy storage service agreement were signed on behalf of the Uzi O'zenergosotish company by Sukhrobzhong Maksudov, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Commercial Affairs, and Shokhuramuv, Acting Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, on behalf of the Uzi side. Basma Bentaher, Chief Development Officer of AMEA Power, signed on behalf of the company. Uzbekistan is the only deep development market for AMEA Power outside of Africa, and the Aftabi project is an important step for the company's layout in Uzbekistan.

Synchronized promotion of multiple projects

According to the official website of AMEA Power, there are currently three projects underway in Uzbekistan. The Celest 150MW/300MWh independent energy storage project in Tashkent, with an investment of approximately 86.1 million US dollars, is the first large-scale energy storage power station project in Tashkent. In mid-2026, AMEA Power signed an EPC general contract with Dongfang Electric Dongfang International for the project. The Gijduvan 200MW/800MWh independent energy storage project in Bukhara Prefecture is expected to have a construction cost of approximately $200 million. The Tomyris 1GW wind power project is located in Kungrad, Karakalpakstan Autonomous Republic, with an estimated total investment of 1.06 billion US dollars and the construction of 40 kilometers of transmission lines. During the visit of Uzbekistan President Mirziyoyev to the United Arab Emirates in January 2025, AMEA Power has signed relevant agreements with the Ukrainian side for the above-mentioned 1GW wind power project and 300MWh energy storage project. Chinese enterprises deeply participate in cooperation

In addition to AMEA Power, the Ukrainian side also held talks with Masdar, who participated in the meeting. Masdar has invested over 2 billion US dollars in Uzbekistan, with a total installed capacity of over 2GW. Masdar CEO Mohammad Jamil Al Ramahi stated that he will continue to develop 2GW renewable energy projects in Uzbekistan. Dongfang Electric Dongfang International signed a general contract with Masdar for the Guzar solar energy storage project in January 2026. The project includes 300MW photovoltaic and 75MWh energy storage, and is the largest integrated mountain solar energy storage project in Uzbekistan. From energy storage to wind power, from EPC general contracting to integrated photovoltaic and energy storage, Chinese companies' participation in the new energy market in Uzbekistan is constantly deepening.Editor/Gao Xue
