On October 19, 2026, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev met with the CEO of Traxys, a US raw material trading company. The two sides discussed key mineral exploration, mining, deep processing, and high value-added industrial product production. On the same day, Ukraine and the United States announced the achievement of 54 cooperation agreements with a total scale of approximately 12 billion US dollars, involving key mineral resources, industrial development, and technological cooperation. From resource extraction to value-added processing, Uzbekistan is attempting to leverage international cooperation to transform underground mineral deposits into industrial competitiveness.

Umeda's Billion Dollar Collaboration
Uzbekistan and American companies are collaborating on key mineral development, advanced processing technology, and industrial investment. The two sides have announced 54 cooperation agreements with a total scale of approximately 12 billion US dollars. In the field of key minerals, Uzbekistan and American company ReElement Technologies have reached a consensus to jointly promote advanced processing pilot projects for key minerals and explore the application of modern processing technologies in the local area. Uzbekistan President Mirziyoyev also met with the CEO of Traxys, a raw material trading company, to discuss cooperation directions in key mineral exploration, mining, deep processing, and high value-added industrial product production.

Shift from mining to processing
For Uzbekistan, mineral resources are not only natural wealth, but also an important foundation for promoting industrial development. In the past, the value of mining was largely reflected in resource extraction and raw material sales. However, by introducing advanced processing technologies, the Ukrainian side hopes to further improve the level of mineral resource processing and transform more resources into industrial raw materials and products with higher added value. This means that the focus of mining development is not only on how much resources are extracted, but also on how much economic value can be created through processing and manufacturing. If the relevant projects are successfully implemented, Uzbekistan is expected to further improve the mining industry chain, drive the construction of processing facilities, the training of technical talents, and the development of upstream and downstream industries. Deep processing unleashes potential
Deep processing of minerals may create new employment opportunities for the local area, expand export channels for industrial products, and help gradually reduce the dependence on primary resource sales for economic growth. Another noteworthy direction of this cooperation is that Uzbekistan is strengthening its connections with international enterprises in terms of technology, investment, and market. For mining, owning mineral resources is just the first step, advanced processing technology, stable funding sources, and long-term sales channels are equally important. By collaborating with international enterprises, Ukraine has the opportunity to further enhance its mineral processing capabilities and strengthen its participation in key global mineral supply chains. From key mineral exploration to advanced processing, and then to the production of high value-added industrial products, Uzbekistan is exploring new paths for mineral resource development, and specific results still need time to be tested.Editor/Gao Xue
