Denbovica County, north of Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is promoting the largest photovoltaic supporting energy storage project in the region. The Ko ç family of Türkiye's leading industrial group has completed the project takeover through its energy sector, and the new energy layout in eastern Europe has left another key piece.
600MWh energy storage will be implemented in two phases
The total capacity of the Nicule ș ti photovoltaic supporting energy storage project is 600MWh, and the entire project will be developed in two phases, with a single phase construction scale of 300MWh. The planned land area for the energy storage station is 90559 square meters, and the supporting 33 kV access cable channel covers an area of 1854.16 square meters. The cables are directly laid from the energy storage area to the 33/220 kV substation inside the photovoltaic power station. The first phase of energy storage has a capacity of 150 MW, corresponding to a 2-hour duration of 300MWh. The second phase is planned to have an equivalent capacity of 300MWh. After completion, the total installed power of energy storage will be 150 MW, and the total energy storage capacity will reach 600MWh. The estimated investment for the energy storage part is about 40 million euros.

The core goal of the project is to deeply explore local solar energy resources, and to construct high-capacity battery energy storage facilities and 33 kV cable lines for the CEF Nicule ș ti power station. The installed capacity of the Nicule ș ti photovoltaic power station is 214 MW, and the project company is Eco Sun Nicule ș ti. The project has already obtained the grid connection technology license and plans to connect to a newly built 220 kV substation, which will directly connect to Transelectrica's Brazi Vest Fundeni transmission line and connect to Romania's national main power grid system.
Türkiye's industrial giant completes asset acquisition
The project was initially developed by Israeli new energy company Ecoenergy, which is also an active investor in Romania's renewable energy sector. In June 2024, the relevant acquisition agreement was formally finalized. Entek Elektrik, a subsidiary of T ü pra ș in Türkiye, acquired the assets of Eco Sun Nicule š ti and Euromec Ciocanari related projects. The initial transaction consideration was 32.9 million euros. When the transaction was completed in 2025, T ü pra ș adjusted the transaction consideration to 33.2 million euros, and 29.2 million euros had been paid as of the delivery node. Keywords: new energy projects, photovoltaic storage

T ü pra ș is the largest oil refining enterprise in Türkiye, ranking seventh among European oil refining enterprises. It has four refineries, with a total crude oil processing capacity of about 30 million tons per year, and is controlled by the Ko ç family in Türkiye. As the largest industrial group in Türkiye, the Ko ç family also holds physical assets such as the Ford Otosan factory Beko factory in Romania. This time, the Ko ç family entered the Romanian new energy track through the energy sector, which means that the industrial layout of Türkiye's industrial giants in Central and Eastern Europe has been extended from traditional manufacturing to the whole chain of clean energy.Editor/Cheng Liting
