On October 20, 2026, at the Shanghai North Bund International Shipping Forum, representatives from five institutions jointly signed the "Yangpu Port Abu Dhabi Port Green Shipping Corridor Construction Cooperation Initiative". Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, Abu Dhabi Port Group, COSCO Shipping Container Transport Co., Ltd., COSCO Shipping Port Co., Ltd., and Hainan Port and Shipping Holdings Co., Ltd. have jointly signed the green shipping corridor construction for Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Port. This channel, which already has direct container shipping routes, is being upgraded from a transportation channel to a green supply chain cooperation platform.

Five party co construction of green corridor
The focus of this cooperation is not to announce a new direct flight route, but to promote green and low-carbon transformation around existing port and shipping connections. The cooperation initiative clearly proposes to focus on cooperation in areas such as clean ship fuel supply and refueling, green ship operation, green port construction, and technological equipment innovation. This means that in the future, the competition standards for some international logistics projects may no longer only focus on freight rates, timeliness, and services. Whether the transportation process is low-carbon and the relevant data is reliable may also become factors for customers to consider when choosing logistics suppliers. However, the signing of the initiative is only a starting point for cooperation and does not mean that the entire route has achieved zero emissions, nor does it mean that the relevant green fuel supply system has been fully established.

COSCO Shipping Port Shipping Collaboration
Yangpu Port is an important port of Hainan Free Trade Port, while Abu Dhabi is an important port and logistics node in the Middle East. The two cities already have direct container transportation services, providing a foundation for further cooperation in green shipping. COSCO Shipping not only has a shipping network, but also participates in the construction of international port systems through overseas terminal investments and operations. Official disclosure shows that the Abu Dhabi terminal under COSCO Shipping Port has launched large-scale operation of intelligent container trucks and replaced some traditional fuel equipment with electrified horizontal transportation. In its domestic holding terminal, the container berth shore power has achieved comprehensive coverage, with a completion rate of over 97% for oil to electricity conversion in the yard and bridge, and a proportion of over 60% for new and clean energy trucks. When enterprises have both air route networks, port resources, and operational technologies, they are better equipped to promote cross regional green supply chain cooperation. New track of green logistics
Green logistics may not immediately bring higher profits, as low-carbon fuels, equipment upgrades, data management, and certification systems may all increase costs. But in the long run, some multinational corporations will incorporate supply chain emissions into procurement and supplier management. For small and medium-sized freight forwarding enterprises, a more practical approach is to start from existing customer needs, understand whether customers have carbon emission management requirements, establish basic transportation data management capabilities, and cooperate with reliable shipping companies and service providers. China COSCO Shipping's participation in the construction of the China UAE Green Shipping Corridor is worthy of continuous observation by Chinese logistics companies. Future international logistics companies may not only need to answer how to transport goods, but also how to complete transportation in a more sustainable way.Editor/Gao Xue
