On October 26, 2026, Alpha Abu Dhabi Holding, a listed company on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange, announced a commitment to invest $1 billion, equivalent to approximately 3.67 billion dirhams, in the Alpha Wave III fund managed by the US alternative asset management firm Alpha Wave Global. The new fund will focus on investing in global artificial intelligence and high growth technology companies. This Abu Dhabi consortium, with total assets of 230 billion dirhams, is preparing to continue expanding its equity layout among Silicon Valley tech giants. What is even more remarkable is the source of this money. The new round of $1 billion investment will utilize the cash distribution from the previous fund and be completed in conjunction with the company's existing funds.

Billion dollar rolling reinvestment

The story begins in May 2022. At that time, Alpha Abu Dhabi announced a commitment to invest 9.2 billion dirhams, approximately 2.5 billion US dollars, in Alpha Wave Ventures II fund, of which 2.6 billion dirhams will be the initial capital contribution, and the remaining 6.6 billion dirhams will be gradually invested according to the fund's requirements during the investment period. The fund is launched in collaboration between Alpha Wave and Chimera Capital in Abu Dhabi, with the goal of investing in global growth stage technology companies covering fields such as artificial intelligence, fintech, life sciences, and enterprise services. Four years later, this investment has become one of the most representative technology assets in Alpha Abu Dhabi's portfolio. According to the 2026 interim report, Alpha Wave Ventures II has a fund size of approximately 38.2 billion dirhams, with Alpha Abu Dhabi holding 24.07% of the limited partnership shares. Representative holdings of the fund include SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, Cerebras, and Long Lake.

2.5 billion to 3.9 billion

According to the semi annual report, as of June 30, 2026, the net asset value of Alpha Abu Dhabi's Phase II fund shares reached 14.3 billion dirhams, approximately 3.89 billion US dollars, with a remaining commitment amount of approximately 400 million dirhams to be deployed. According to the calculation criteria disclosed by the fund, its holding value is a multiple of 1.6 times the deployed capital, which is approximately 8.8 billion dirhams. The deployed capital corresponds to a final net asset value of 14.3 billion dirhams. In the first half of 2026, Alpha Abu Dhabi achieved a revenue of AED 37.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5%, a net profit of AED 9.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 48%, and total assets increased from AED 214.4 billion at the end of 2025 to AED 230 billion. The overall investment fair value return of the group reached 3.7 billion dirhams, and the unrealized fair value return contributed by Alpha Wave Ventures II fund was 3.4 billion dirhams. Cerebras officially landed on NASDAQ in May 2026, and one month later SpaceX completed its largest initial public offering in US history, providing a new asset pricing basis for early institutional investors. Connecting the links of controlling asset management

If we continue to trace the flow of this $1 billion investment, we will discover the special position of Alpha Wave Global in the Abu Dhabi capital map. This US asset management agency was founded in 2012, formerly known as Falcon Edge Capital. As of March 2026, it manages approximately $29 billion in assets and has 11 offices worldwide. In February 2026, Abu Dhabi International Holdings (IHC) announced the integration of its financial services assets to form Judan Financial Holding, with a planned asset size of approximately 870 billion dirhams under management. Just one month later, Judan announced the acquisition of 50.1% equity in Alpha Wave Global. Through this controlling investment, IHC's financial services platform gained a majority stake in a mature alternative asset management institution in the United States. Alpha Abu Dhabi provides investment capital as a limited partner of the fund, Alpha Wave is responsible for managing the fund and executing technology enterprise investments, and Judan holds a controlling stake in Alpha Wave Management Company. Abu Dhabi has established an international capital network covering fundraising, project screening, equity holding, and reinvestment, from investing in Silicon Valley star companies to obtaining fund cash flow, and then controlling the US asset management agency responsible for finding technology projects.Editor/Gao Xue
